So started my treatment Tuesday, then yesterday the pump stopped, ( was supposed to be today). It had infused all fhe 5fu but in 73 hours not 96. Crazy!

I feel fine and they seem to just be continuing treatment as planned but next time I’ll have a new pump haha! They encouraged me to watch for side effects, when did those start for you all?

I’m stage  1 so they won’t see a tumor shrinking sadly so I guess I won’t know if it worked until they scan after it’s over.

anyway just curious about this!

thanks !

  • Hi i had my chemo via a pump they connected it on a Monday and then changed it on a Wednesday and removed on Friday, I found it was empty hours before it should have been but was told your body temperature kind of dictates how quickly it goes in. I felt a bit sick from the mitomycin from the start but had nothing else that really bothered me until about week 2/3. Pleased you are doing OK, tick those days off. Sending hugs. Xx

  • Thank you!  Sounds like you recovered and are fine with your hiccup! How far out are yiu from treatment? If you dont mind me asking Grinning

  • Ask anything you want. I finished treatment on 6th November 2024. Was told at 3 month scan that I had no active cancer although I did have some new uptake showing which means there is a tiny chance I have a new tumour but it's more likely it is healthy tissue that got damaged during treatment trying to heal itself. • Hi Ewagirl,

I too am in the States and had the exact same treatment as you. My pump also finished ahead of schedule but only by a few hours, not 24 hours like you. I think a new pump is definitely in order! Slight smile

As for chemo side effects, I tolerated it pretty well the first week, but about 3 days after finishing with the pump, I got mouth sores, which weren't world-ending but not much fun either. I had to eat soft foods that were neither too warm nor too cold for about 5 days until the sores healed.

The oncologist warned me that the mouth sores could be worse after the second round of chemo, so I asked her for a prescription mouthwash straight off the bat, which I started the minute the pump finished the second time around. Guess what--no mouth sores! So, if you do get mouth sores, I recommend the prescription mouthwash. The first time I just rinsed with water laced with salt and baking soda and it wasn't quite as effective.

Good luck with everything, and I hope treatment goes smoothly here on out! Xx

  • Thank you so so much! I’ll get on the sores immediately and I’ll plan for the mouthwash so I can avoid it like you didGrinningGrinning!

    hope you’re doing great!

  • Hello Ewagirl

I didn't have a pump, I had what they call a bolus, a large syringe of liquid given through cannula on the first day - I think the effect is exactly the same, it is just that different hospitals have different protocols.

I am so pleased that you are feeling well; that must be a big relief - long may it continue!

    Irene xx
