Three months post-treatment MRI results are in

The MRI shows the tumour has shrunk from 5 cm to 1.5 cm. I’m feeling quite low about that but the oncologist says the radiotherapy will continue working for up to 6 months. So I wait now for the 6- month post treatment MRI to see how much the tumour might continue to shrink.

I’d love to hear from anyone who has had further improvement ( or complete eradication)  in that 3 - 6 month period please! I know how important it is to stay positive, but it sure is hard today.

Please don't despair - your oncologist certainly isn't the only doctor to say this.  I am sorry I can't say about my tumour, I was more worried about being able to take off on a holiday and I didn't ask if it had completely gone.

But there are quite a few on the forum who didn't have a clear result at three months who went on to be clear at the six month scan and I am hoping that one of them picks up on your post.

Big hug Franco, it is all such a rollercoaster, we know.

  • Hi  ,

It's a huge ask for you to hold your nerve for another 3 months but as Irene has said we’ve certainly had other members in my time here that have been in your situation & have gone on to have a complete response to treatment. I know this won’t offer much comfort at the moment but try & think positively.

    Sending you a virtual hug.

  • Appreciate your encouragement Nikki

  • Hi Franco

I can only imagine how you are feeling as I haven't got to your stage yet, but I was told at the beginning of my treatment not to worry if the three month scan didn't show all clear and that it was the 6 month one that was important. I was also told like you have been that the treatment continues to work. Hang on in there. Sending hugs. Xx

  • Oh thank you so much Bungle. That’s a huge comfort! It will really help me stay positive Heart

  • Franco,

That's really shrunk a lot - and as others have said, the radiotherapy keeps working for quite a long time after you stop the treatment, so it will still be acting on your tumour now.

The three month scan gives them an idea how things are progressing; they will have a much clearer picture in six months, and it's looking promising so far.

Try to look after yourself and just allow your body to get on with getting you better.

    all the best

  • I will soon have my 3 month scan and have been told exactly as others have been told by their oncologist. Let the medicine work - as it has been, but it needs time to eradicate completely. I’m looking forward to you telling us 3 months from now that you are all clear. This treatment is highly effective. Hold onto that!

    Big hugs

  • Hugs and thanks right back at you too!

  • Just what I needed to hear right now. Tomorrow’s another day, a new start. Grateful for this advice and I will look after myself and let the healing happen Pray
