Help! I’m on day 3 and I feel awful, I can barely move and have to go to radiotherapy in an a hour. My body is so achy and I feel so sick. Looking for words of encouragement and how was your experience? How did you manage going to radiotherapy every day? I’m doing 28 days chemoradiation. My first day was the drip and I think that has completed destroyed my body. X
Hello MissBear
Tell your treating team right now - sometimes people have quite a bad reaction when they first have chemo and you sound as if you are really suffering. They are normally very responsive and can sort you out, in particular with ant-nausea medication. Please take heart, it is highly unlikely you will feel like this throughout your treatment.
Please let us know how you get on.
Sending a gently healing hug.

I agree with all that’s been said. I think the first one is the worst because it’s intravenous maybe? I didn’t have that experience but my treatment team sent me home with anti sickness tablets. A woman I made friends with had the same reaction as you initially, but was fine after that. It’s a shock to the system.
Thinking of you and don’t suffer in silence please.
Hugs

Hi
Like others have said ask for anti sickness meds and if they aren't working ask for different ones. I felt sick on my first chemo and the anti sickness didn't work and I didn't realise I could have different ones. It could be the mitomycin if you had that which is making you feel sick, I think it was that for me as I felt fine on my second chemo at the end when you don't have it. Going everyday can be draining just keep ticking those days of and thinking one day closer to the finish line. Xx
Hi Miss Bear,
I have yet to have my first treatment consult so no personal experience. However, what I have learned from my experience of family going through various treatments, a nod to the wise is never hold back with how you are feeling. Please don’t suffer in silence What you are going through is challenging enough. I bet there’s all sorts of things they can offer. x
Hi MissBear,
As others have said, you may well find it's that first chemo that has upset you. Fortunately, that's probably the only dose of that one you'll get, lots of us reacted to it.
Mention to your radiotherapists or chemo team, they have lots of different anti-sickness meds, but it should start to pass soon and you'll feel more normal; I felt ok in myself, just a bit tired and I only wanted small meals.
The actual radiotherapy won't start gradually affecting you until you are almost finished. We all reacted differently and the RT are on it, checking each time that things are still ok.
Hopefully you'll start to feel a bit better soon,
Hi MissBear ,
Firstly I’m really sorry that you seem to have had this awful reaction to the infusion (mitomycin I presume?), this is the one that generally makes you tired & nauseous. Are you going onto oral chemo now (capecitabine)? As has already been advised contact your treating team & ask for an alternative anti-sickness, there’s lots of others out there & it really is a case of one size definitely doesn’t fit all! I hope you begin to feel a little better soon.
Nicola
Hi Miss Bear,
I am just finishing week 3 today and am not feeling to bad. Like you my first week was terrible, constant nausea and fatigue. I had my anti sickness tablets changed twice and now the nausea has gone. I really felt as though I couldn’t possible get through 28 days but by the end of week 2 I suddenly felt better and not worse. Talk to your nurses and tell them how you feel they have lots of options available to help get you through the whole process…
