My mum was diagnosed with AML at the start of the year. All was going well, she was down as "curable" she had a stem cell donor lined up. They were ready for the green light to donate, everything was all systems go.
7 months in and she is told that the cancer has mutated and that any form of chemo isn't going to work.
The issue is, everyone is being very secretive. For example, she told me that she had 6months+. Turned out to be 3+ My intuition has been going off like alarm bells and I've had 15+ yrs in care so I've seen my fair share of palliative care.
I fear its spread, hip pain, Digestive issues, etc. But I don't know at the same time.
I don't know what to expect. She was prescribed oramorph today, and I don't know if that's another indicator of time running low. I just don't know. Will it be traumatic for her? Will it be sore? I can't ask because the answers I get may or may not be the truth.
Can someone please talk me through what will happen what may happen, the good the bad, and the ugly. I need to prepare myself, to be strong for her. I made her a promise I would be there and I will. I want to be her rock, like she has been for me every moment of my life.
Hi 90Chickens and a warm welcome to this corner of the Community although I am sorry to see you joining us and more so to read about your mum.
This is such a challenging time for you to navigate. I am not aware of any group member in the same position at the moment and I have no first hand experience…… but you may want to join and post in our general Carers only and Supporting someone with incurable cancer groups where you will connect with others navigating the same challenges.
