Hi I am okay, but really sad that my husband has cancer again.  Unfortunately he is one of 10% who could get cancer after having received chemo therapy.  Husband is in the right place but as  it is the second time, both my adult children are struggling to cope and wondered what I should offer them?  I have suggested Macmillan.

  • Hi  and welcome to this corner of the Community although always sorry to see folks joining us. I am Mike  and I help out around our blood cancer groups.

I a so sorry to hear about your husbands second cancer diagnosis. I don’t have AML but was diagnosed way back in 1999 with a rather rare incurable but treatable type of skin NHL Stage 4a and although my blood cancer ‘type’ is different I have experienced most types of treatments used but not necessarily the exact same drug mix but understand this journey rather well unfortunately.

What treatment is he having or going to have?

Talking to people face to face may help find support for you and family but during these strange times it’s not that available but do check to see if you have any Local Macmillan Support in your area has opened up. Do also check out for a local Maggie's Centre as these folks are amazing. During lockdown a lot of their services moved onto online video support. But I see our local Maggie’s (Inverness) are starting to open up for one on one support.

It’s always good to talk so do call the Macmillan Support Services on 0808 808 00 00 - most services are open 8am to 8pm, 7 days a week Clicking here to see what is available. This service provides lots of cancer information, emotional support, benefit and financial guidance or just a listening ear.

    ((hugs))
