hi everyone

anyone had an aspirate biopsy where they struggled to get enough of a sample? Long time after chemo finished (last chemo was sept / oct 2017

Did the results come back ok ? Did the doctors tell you why they could not get enough aspirate?

Husb has aspirate biopsy today (to check for mrd).  The first dr cld not get enough aspirate and she asked another doctor to try and that dr cld not at first but then they switched to a bigger needle and got enough.

Both these docs have done my husb aspirates before with no issues and now today they both struggled. I’ve done  the silly thing n googled and of course “dr google” shows that a dry pull is nearly always clinically significant... so I’m worrying (as always)

husb is in in remission 2+ years and has aspirate biopsy regularly to check for mrd.  Bloods 3 weeks ago normal.  biopsy before today was 4.5 months ago were normal.

Yes. They had to do the biopsy again in the hospital, instead of in office. They did a CT guided biopsy and got what they needed.

Hey there! I am doing well. Been busy with my son, working, etc.

Thus was a biopsy done in September. He is repeating the first week on November. Wanted to repeat 6 weeks after the last one. We are going to Bermuda for Thanksgiving, he said to go and get results the Monday after the holiday.
I’ll let you know when I hear something.

I hope your husband is doing well.

Thanks for reply.  It is great to get an update about u Cos I often wonder how u r.

So it was the biopsy that u had to have done by CT guide that came back showing something (not aml tho).  See that’s what I see reading dr google (I should NOT have done so!) says that most of dry taps are clinically significant and show that there is something wrong with marrow.

I actually have all of them done with the CT scan. The one they didn’t do that way resulted in a dry biopsy. That was the one that they redid.

Overall, all has been good. We traveled over the summer and   Planned a lot of fun things to do.  I have been super stressed at work, can stress show up in you bone marrow? I was starting to look for a new job. Going to pause on that and see what is going on with all of this.

Is your husband having a repeat biopsy? I am praying it was just a fluke.

I dunno if stress can show up in bloods- I don’t think so though.   My (guess) is that if it was anything very bad (ie aml risk of  returning) they wld have given you a lot more info instead... but waiting till after thanksgiving for news and results of the next biopsy must be very worrying !!   I don’t know yet if they will redo glens biopsy - it depends on the lab.  Cos at the 4th attempt they did eventually get some fluid.... so I guess (??) they are hoping it will be a good enough  sample as they still sent it to lab.

how is your son doing school wise now?  I think his grades had suffered a bit when they thought u were gonna have sct you said?

as for changing jobs - if u did look for a new job would it affect your medical cover?   If it doesn’t affect that tho it may be a good idea to look for another job anyway - even while u wait on the next biopsy ... Cos stress is not good on the immune system and u can deffo do without the work related worries to add to it.

here in U.K. the MRD resulrs takes anywhere between 10 days and 5 weeks (!!!) to come  back (average being 4 weeks) so we have a bit of a wait.   Husb however feels fitter than ever before and his bloods are good .... just can’t help the worry esp after what “dr google” said about dry taps

Let’s hope that they got what they needed! Praying that all comes back good.

I am okay, trying not to focus on this and just live my life! Next biopsy is the first week of November, with a follow up appointment for results the Monday after Thanksgiving. It takes a few weeks for results to come back here in the US as well.

Work sucks, but will have to hang for a little while. I just promised myself that I would not let it get to me.  I need the paycheck if I have to go out for treatment or anything. I have been iat the same company for 25 years, so they give me paid tome off.

My son is doing so well, he has A’s and one B right now.  We are having such a good time with him!

My Mom was diagnosed with CLL a few months ago. She has been through chemo, the cancer is gone and she is in recovery. Her blood counts have not returned to normal, it has been 4 months since the last chemo. She lives with my family, so we have been with her through all of this. Her Dr said that we might carry a gene mutation in our family that lies dormant until something triggers.

I’ll let you know when I hear more. You do the same!

Hi Texas chic - any more news on your biopsy?  I think u said after thanksgiving?  (Not quite sure when thanksgiving Is as we don’t celebrate that In Uk but I think it was last week??)

they did get enough aspirate for my husband after all  n he is still in remission Pray

the plan seems (??) to be to continue with 3 monthly biopsies for a while.  I put the “??” As prof want to consult with colleagues but says that is what he will suggest to them as a group.
