Hi,

My Dad was diagnosed with ALL Philadelphia at the start of September. He was originally only given 24 Hours to a Week to live. He now has completed stage one of his chemo. The Doctors and Nurses have said he's been doing well. This is where the issue arises. For all the fact the Nurses and Doctors have said his progress has been "Good" his prognosis is now 1-2 Years at best. I just can't fathom how this can be deemed as good. My Dad is 74, Is completely my World and like a Best Friend. I just can't get this through my mind. Can a prognosis be wrong in terms of it being wrong to the benefit of the patient? He deserves more time with me and my family xx

  • HI  and welcome to this corner of the Community although I am always sorry to hear about your dad’s diagnosis. I am Mike and I help out around our various Blood Cancer groups.

I don’t have Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL) but I was diagnosed way back in 1999 at 43 with my first type of rare T-Cell Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma…… back then the median survival was set at 3-5 years.

Then n late 2013 a second very rare, very aggressive type of T-Cell Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma appeared taking me Stage 4a and I was given 2-3 years if the proposed treatment plan did not work…….. but I am now 10 years out from my last treatment, I turn 70 this month and I am living a great life.

If only we had a crystal ball…..
