evening everyone,
currently having BCG treatment for bladder cancer..
we are off to Mexico in July…travel insurance has been quoted at around £500 for two weeks…
is this about the right price?
Cheers in advance Nigel xx
Hi Rob R
It's difficult for anyone to say if
£500 for two weeks…
is this about the right price
as unless they have the same diagnosis as you, along with other things such as age, other medical conditions, etc, all insurance quotes are individual.
The best thing to do to get a feel for what sort of price you might have to pay is to try several different insurance companies. Have you had chance to look through the members recommended travel insurance thread yet, as you'll find lots of recommendations there from others who have got reasonably priced travel insurance?
In recent years I've used payingtoomuch.com and goodtogoinsurance.com to cover my foreign holidays and found them to be reasonably priced.
I hope you manage to get some reasonably priced insurance and, if it's with someone other than what is recommended in the thread I've pointed you towards, do come back and let us know so that others can benefit in future.
Anne
Hello Nigel,
As latchbrook has said, it's difficult to say if your quote is reasonable or not.
I don't know which insurer you've used but would suggest you get a quote from Albert & Eddie if it wasn't them. I've used them for a couple of years (I have an annual policy) and am currently paying just under £500 for 12 months worldwide cover for my wife and I.
It could be worth you looking at the cost of an annual policy if you might be taking more holidays in the next 12 months, often it's not much more than a single trip policy.
You'll see that others on the travel insurance forum have also used Albert & Eddie.
I hope you can get sorted, and that you have a great time in Mexico. We'll be near the border in Tucson, Arizona in July!
All the best, Derek.

I have used Insure with since my secondary breast cancer diagnosis four years ago. I thankfully have never had to make a claim, however my recent experience has not been so good, I have found that their pricing is not as competitive as it was. My husband also has CLL but doesn’t currently need any treatment, my cancer has been stable for over 3 years, we went to Mexico in 2024 and the price was just over £360 for both of us for 2 weeks, which I found reasonable, we are considering going again or to the Dominican in June, the quote was ridiculously expensive at £1500 (over 400% increase). The only difference in the two quotes was my age, I am now 66 which apparently is now old!!! For our last 4 holidays I have found Holidaysafe to be a better alternative, they quoted me £500 for the same level of cover and their medical excess is less. My oncologist even said that all though my condition is incurable it is a chronic condition that is currently treatable which unfortunately the insurance companies do not consider. One of the things we have to look forward to is our holidays and they seem to be getting less and less attainable.
hello Ricepop ,
Thanks for the information, I also use Holidaysafe as I found them competitve with reasonable cover. My condition is also incurable but treatable.
We also travel quite a lot, mainly the Canaries and USA. I found it was much cheaper to buy an annual policy which permits as many holidays as you like subject only to a maximum 31 days per trip. Of course it does depend on how many trips you plan to take.
