hello all, I am looking to go on a 7 day solo cruise around the med late next year or the following year and I have been searching for travel insurance quotes.  One specialist company won't provide a quote until I book a trip as he said it will depend on future treatment but I'd rather know the cost now so I know what I'm spending.

another company I've approached online - not sure if I can mention their name? have quoted just over £1000 for a 12 month policy which is a lot better than I imagined.  the cruise is costing between £1700-£2000 depending on dates and the route.

In additoin to this I can't find my type of cancer on this list - I had a soft tissue sarcoma in the upper left quadrant (abdomen) which has been completely removed.  I also had my gall bladder removed, a liver resection and I've ended up with a colostomy as the some of the sarcoma was attached to the large bowel - I dont have bowel cancer by the way.  I still have microscopic lesions on my liver and I'm jjsut waiting to hear what the consultants will decide re treatment - might be monitoring or ablation....I really dont know.

But I'm desperate to get away and need something to look forward to.  Is this a good deal??  As this policy is for 12 months I guess I will need to make the most of it and book as many trips in Europe as I can.  and do you think it would be sensible to call the insurance co and mention they type of cancer I have?  all I could put on the form was "cancer with metastases" and "colostomy"  nothing listed under soft tissue sarcoma

thanks in advance

Marei

  • Hi Marei, welcome, have you tried Insurewith, they tend to specialise in Cancer Patients, you are always best calling any Insurance Company or Broker as online applications as you have found out don't really cover all Cancer types, you will also have the added problem of the colostomy which will be an ongoing health issue even if you feel it isn't, I have a neck stoma and that has proved more of a problem than the 2 cancers I'm in remission from

Hope you get something sorted, Take care, Tony

  • Morning Marei

An annual policy can be better value if you're planning several trips. Do bear in mind you need to update them throughout the term of the policy with scan results, change in medication, any time spent in hospital etc This may result in additional premiums.

Hope you manage to get some lovely holidays and I agree something to look forward to is great.

  • Hello Caroline.  thank you for the advice.  I will ring the insurance company as I want to make sure I am covered for everything and I didnt know you had to keep them updated on scan results.  Makes sense :)

I am already planning two long weekends for next year.  Barcelona and Lourdes (France).  I am still dithering about the cruise but I guess having doctors/nurses on board makes me feel a bit more confident.

  • Hello Kasvin.  I completed an online application with All Clear.  I will give Insurwith a go too.  and as you suggest I will ring both of them.

wishing you all the very best

  • Which company only quoted £1000 for a 12 month policy?

  • Hi Paulette it was All Clear.  I think that's reasonable for one year but might go up following a phone call as I need to go through exactly what I have which isnt listed under the options.
