Travel insurance undergoing treatment - 'hazardous activity' cover

Hiya,

I'm hoping this community might be able to help save me from endless world of internet and trying to get quotes online.

I've follicular non hodgkins lymphoma, currently having targeted therapy once a month and take a clinical trial drug 14days every 28. I'm 37 years old and no real side effects so feel very lucky to be able to enjoy my normal hobbies of rock climbing, sea kayaking, hiking and just generally being outside :) I'm 4 cycles in to a years treatment and hoping to go away in september. I'd like to be doing some trekking up to 3000m, maybe via ferrata and rock climbing but not sure on travel insurance side of things. From looking about, I think i can use e.g. globelink to just not have the cancer covered, but not got the best sportwise (didn't seem to have climbing). insureandgo do a bit more but still not really and worried that anyone will just weasel out of anything, as feels hard to get some kind of medical cover incase e.g. had to get antibiotics, or it had to cancel trip. mostly I want to just be covered in case I fall and break my leg, and i guess maybe mindful that my immune system is a little lower so higher risk for random viruses, but hard to know if paying a lot for insurance would just mean i'm covered for the cancer side of things from a more cancer specialist insurance, but then not covered for the rock climbing etc.

wondering if anyone on here has found somewhere that is covering pre existing conditions with the hazardous sports, or any advice on overcoming this. previously i've got austrian alpine club insurance on top of standard insurance as covers search and rescue costs, they don't mention pre existing conditions, so presuming that because they're on the search and rescue side of things it wouldnt matter if rescue was needed because of something cancer related?

my brain is a bit scrambled at the moment with returning to work, trying to figure out travel and generally dealing with this being something i might have to deal with many times over my lifespan, so apologies for the slightly chaotic message! thanks for any help from anyone able and willing to decipher it ;)

  • Hi Anna I think you'll find speaking to Insurance Co's is best with a Cancer treatment/diagnosis as they will require specific information of stages etc, I found 'Insurewith' very helpful although I didn't go ahead they were very helpful, the cost was too much for the holiday we proposed to take

    Hope you get sorted

    Take care, Tony

  • Hello Anna,

I think that under your circumstances the best course of action may be to find a specialist broker which concentrates in non-standard risks. Maybe try a google search for specialists?
