Trying to get a travel insurance I have been asked if the cancer is terminal and I don’t know what to answer . My oncologist said it was not curable but she did not said terminal . I have metastatic womb cancer the immunotherapy is working .
I'm in the same position although yet to establish if the immunotherapy is working. I paid £3800 for 6 days insurance for a trip to LA. Total rip off. We need a definition from the insurance companies of the word Terminal. If I can muster some energy I will try to do some research.
Hello FranB123,
This is a very confusing situation (not helped by most insurers using an ambiguous question) and I don't believe there is an official definition of terminal but in general it's considered to mean a person is not expected to survive for more than 6 months.
Insurancewith and Albert & Eddie use a different underwriting question set than most other insurers which specifically ask the following (the answers are mine from when I obtained cover last month):
Have you reached a point where the doctor says you cannot be cured, so treatment is intended to extend and/or improve the quality of your life ? a) Yes
What is your current short term outlook ? a) I am expected to live longer than six months (note - there are 2 other options for answers - less than than 6 months and I don't know)
If you're unsure at all it's best to 'phone for clarification so tou can be certain you're going to be properly covered.
I hope you can get something sorted.
