Awaiting results

After an endoscopy early last year, I was told that early stage oesophageal cancer cells had been found. I had two procedures to remove the cells in question. I had a follow up gastroscopy a week ago. Samples were taken and I’m awaiting the results. My problem is that I’ve had a European holiday booked for over a year. I’m due to travel next month. My doctor advised it would be safe for me to travel but I need to update my insurance company of the situation. I did so but they have cancelled my policy as they won’t insure anyone awaiting medical results. Has anyone had experience of getting travel insurance under these circumstances, or do I just give upon my holiday?

  • Hi Lindy

i could get travel insurance but it was so expensive. Someone suggested I try my bank. I had vulva cancer in 2022. Called the bank, screened me and my husband and we now have travel insurance world wide including the states plus breakdown cover on the cars and cover for our mobile phones laptops and iPads all for £13 per month.  Please give your bank a call we are with Nationwide. Hope this helps.

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

Unfortunately, it can be much harder to find travel insurance when you have had a cancer diagnosis.

Have you had chance to look through the 'recommended travel insurance' thread yet, as that's where the majority of recommendations are? If not, clicking on the link I've created will take you straight there. As there are lots of recommendations, it's probably best to make a list before starting to phone around.

Do come back and let us know how you get on
