I’m trying to get travel insurance for my brother who has terminal cancer of the larynx and wants to go on a cruise. In October he was told he could have 10 or 11 months left, I have been in touch with money helper, biba and a number of insurance companies without any luck. I have until 05/02/24 to cancel the cruise if we can’t find any travel insurance, I’ve lost days trying to sort this out so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  • I use WWW.INSURANCEWITH.COM.  There are numerous questions to answer but may pay dividends in the end, good luck with your search.

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

Unfortunately, as you've found, it can be more difficult to find travel insurance when a cancer diagnosis is involved. However, there are lots of people in this group who've got insurance and are enjoying holidays. Do check with each individual company what their definition of terminal is because some class it as having less than 12 months to live whilst others say less than 6 months.

Have you had chance to look through the 'recommended travel insurance' thread yet, as that's where the majority of recommendations are? If not, clicking on the link I've created will take you straight there. As there are lots of recommendations, it's probably best to make a list before starting to phone around.

Most people recommend that you phone the companies rather than do the quote online as it gives you a chance to explain 'things' to a person rather than wondering how to answer a question online. Also, sometimes you can get to the end of a lengthy online quote only to be told that you need to ring the company before they can give you a quote anyway.

I do hope you can get insurance for your brother and he can enjoy a cruise.

  • Money helper and BIBA should list, between them, approx 40 specialist insurers (there are more than that listed, but some are duplicated on both directories), many of them specifically say they provide cover for customers with a terminal illness prognosis. Would be interested to know if you phoned or visited online? I feel for you...I hope you can find something!
