I have been searching for insurance cover for trips to Germany that I make regularly to receive Cancer Treatment .
I am seeking details of an insurer that can provide me with appropriate cover for these trips - and cannot find any company that offers this .
can anyone recommend please.
Hi Grizzly1 and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
I can't help with any recommendations for insurers who will provide cover for medical treatment abroad and I've done a quick search in the group to see if anyone else has mentioned this but drawn a blank I'm afraid.
It might be best to contact an insurance broker and get them on the case for you. If you do find cover it would be great if you could pop back and let us know who covered you in case someone else in future asks this question.
Hi Latchbrook : Thanks for your thoughts - This is obviously a real issue for people travelling outside of UK to receive treatment - it denies you any part of a Travel Insurance package - there appears no insurer that can exclude the Medical Travel risk in order to provide straightforward travel cover for normal holidays / business etc .
To me this smacks of victimisation .
I will let you know when I find the solution - Same in reverse please ?
Hi again Grizzly1
Sorry, I obviously misunderstood as I thought you were looking for travel insurance that would cover you when you travelled abroad for treatment but in your reply you've said "there appears no insurer that can exclude the medical travel risk to provide straightforward travel cover for normal holidays".
Have you had a chance to look through the recommended travel insurance thread yet as you'll find lots of recommendations there for travel insurance for "normal holidays"? If not, clicking on the link I've provided will take you there. Most of them will cover you for existing medical conditions and you may find some that are happy to exclude your cancer diagnosis. It's usually best to phone the companies as you can then ask if they'll exclude your cancer diagnosis if that's what you want to do.
Hi Latchbrook -
Thank you for your continued interest .
Unfortunately , yes I have tried and failed to have any provider that can / will " exclude " my travel
for Treatment and offer me straightforward " Travel Cover for Holidays etc "
This I find most disconcerting - as it is clear victimisation of Cancer Sufferers in my opinion -
So you cannot get on a plane with Cancer - If you dare to accept superior / life saving treatment outside of UK ?
I've looked at a couple of travel insurance policy documents and it's not just cancer that wouldn't be covered. One says
"we won't cover any trip arranged to seek medical treatment"
I hope you're able to find a specialist company that will provide you with the cover you're looking for.
Hi Latchbrook ,
Could be viewed as straightforward discrimination that potentially puts a traveller at risk some might say .
