Travel Insurance for new diagnosis

My father has a pre-booked holiday to Tenerife (this Friday) as has just been diagnosed with metastatic lung cancer (Liver & Lungs) yesterday.  This diagnosis was following a recent scan and he has only seen his GP for outcome and is waiting on further appointment with specialist to understand/start further treatment. This will be after he has returned from the holiday.

I'm looking for advice on how to present this position to insurers and any recommendations on which insurers may be able to help with the required cover.

  • You need to tell the insurance company quickly and answer any questions they have. If they refuse to provide cover for the holiday due to this recent diagnosis the costs should be covered under the cancellation section of the policy (provided your father had no problems and was not undergoing tests or investigation when he took out the cover).

Made in 1956. Tested to destruction.
  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I hope you followed excavator's advice and your dad got in touch with his travel insurers to tell them about his cancer diagnosis. How did it go?

I realise that this will be cutting it fine but, if his insurers are no longer prepared to insure him and he still wants to go, you could have a look at the recommendations in the 'recommended travel insurance' thread as that's where the majority of recommendations are. Clicking on the link I've created will take you straight there.

Do come back and let us know how he/you got on
