I have just received my diagnosis of Endometrial Cancer 4 days ago. I already had a holiday in place which begins in one week. Everything has happened so quickly and as usual I have left travel insurance to the last minute. I now find myself utterly frustrated that the only insurance offer I can get is almost double the cost of my holiday. I have tried the recommended register of insurers for this purpose and they all say they cannot provide cover. I have one more scan this week and then will discuss my treatment on Friday (2 days before flying). It seems that whenever I state 'treatment has not yet begun' that the companies do not want to know.
Has anyone else found this an issue? Will it make a difference once I have a treatment plan in place? Seriously considering holiday without insurance!
Hi Jules65 and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
Unfortunately, as you've found, it can be more difficult to find travel insurance when you've had a cancer diagnosis.
Have you had chance to look through the 'recommended travel insurance' thread yet as that's where the majority of recommendations are? Clicking on the link I've created will take you straight there. The thread is quite long so it's best to make a list on paper of the companies recommended and then work your way through them.
Most people recommend that it's better to phone the insurance companies rather than try and do online quotes as often at the end of the online quote it will tell you to phone the company and you'll then have to go through all the information again. Also, sometimes the broker can refer to the underwriters to see if they would provide cover when an online quote might just give you a straight refusal.
I recently used goodtogoinsurance.com to cover a holiday for me and my husband. My husband was waiting for a minor procedure and they were happy to cover him. However, the insurance excluded cancellation cover if his operation was brought forward, meaning we couldn't travel, or if he had to come home early for the same reason. Maybe give them a try if you haven't already.
I found that once all my treatment for breast cancer was over my existing travel insurer was happy to cover me for no extra cost.
I hope you can get insurance to cover your holiday and do come back and let me know how you got on.
