Hi everyone,

We have received some feedback that you would like a more recent recommended travel insurance thread set up.

The lovely @latchbrook set up the original 'recommended travel insurance thread' which you can still view here. Just so you don't have to go through the different pages of information to find recent recommendations, you can find the most recent experiences in this thread.

Please note, all recommendations are from Community members and are not recommendations from Macmillan. Please do your own research as to whether the companies are suitable for you.

This thread can be used to update the group when you've found an insurance company that provided you with cover at a reasonable cost from a recommendation you found here or elsewhere.

If you could put a little bit of additional information eg. whether you got a single trip or annual, cover for a cruise, worldwide, etc along with anything else that you think others would find helpful when they are researching that would be great.

  • So sorry to hear about your difficulties getting insurance! I’ve just checked what insurancewith.com asked me when I took out their insurance. I took a copy of their questionnaire! They didn’t ask if I’d been given a terminal diagnosis - here’s what they did ask, and what I answered (hope it helps!):

Have you reached a point where the doctor says you cannot be cured, so treatment is intended to extend and/or improve the quality of your life ? a) Yes
What is your current short term outlook ? a) I am expected to live longer than six months
Has the cancer been actively treated in the last 2 years ? a) Yes
What stage were you at diagnosis ? e) Stage 4 - The cancer has spread / grown beyond the prostate gland to nearby structures such as the bladder or back passage (rectum), or to more distant organs such as the bones or liver.
Has your cancer EVER spread (metastasised) or grown in other places ? a) Yes

P.S. I meant to say also: I did everything online. I didn't ned to phone. I got Annual Europe insurance (including Cruise cover) for £251.19 - thrilled!

  • Thanks mark. Just tried that but still no. There must be something as there were loads more questions. Thanks for your help.

  • Yes, I had to answer a lot more questions too - I only pasted a snippet. I’ve pasted below all my answers to the Cancer question (I’m also Diabetic and have High Blood Pressure). I remember when I first tried to get insurance, I was refused because it had been less than 3 months since the initial diagnosis - if that’s the case with you, then don’t give up hope!

I’m on hormone meds (which I get from the Chemo unit each month) but not on Chemo - another Chemo patient told me that the ‘Hospital Treatment’ question refers to non-regular appointments, not frequent Chemo visits - not sure if this is right or not, but made sense to me! Either way, hopefully you’ll find someone who’ll insure you! Here’s all my answers to the Cancer question:

How is your pain relief medication taken ? a) Orally/By mouth Are you prescribed any form of liquid pain relief medication ? b) No

  • Try insurancewith.com

i just completed their extensive medical screening form, with 100% honesty, and I got a really good quote.
I’m in a similar situation to your husband- stage IV lung cancer, on going treatment etc - no problem at all!
    Good luck Fingers crossed

  • InsureCancer 01252780190 are useful for people with incurable cancer.

  • The problem I found with them is that they ask you to declare all the drugs you are on, so anything for a side effect of immunotherapy is counted as a separate condition

  • Oh that’s a pain - even though they asked tons of questions that wasn’t one of them!

  • Hello. My husband was able to get insured with All Clear to travel to Canada this summer. Be aware though, the cost was a shock, as much as our combined return flights and a bit more. We decided to go ahead as this was our postponed trip during Covid. And since receiving a diagnosis, we wanted to undertake the trip to the Rockies and Vancouver island. My husband is still undergoing treatment, and we have not as yet received any specific information on his prognosis.

  • Can I just ask who you used - I am trying to get cover for a 5 day cruise to Netherlands and cost is over £350

  • Hello. We used All Clear. We have taken out annual travel insurance for my husband with them.
