My husbands stage 4 cancer is stable and being treated although it is still called palliative. He leads a pretty normal life despite treatment side affects. He is far less likely to become ill on holiday than some people with other insureable health issues. Has anyone had an “affordable” quote for say a short European break with a similar diagnosis? Thankyou
HI The Neds
A European break sounds lovely but, unfortunately, it can be more difficult to find travel insurance when you've had a cancer diagnosis. Have you had chance to look at the recommendations in the 'recommended travel insurance' thread yet? If not, clicking on the link I've created will take you straight there.
Most people recommend that it's better to phone the insurance companies rather than try and do online quotes as often at the end of the online quote it will tell you to phone the company and you'll then have to go through all the information again. Also, sometimes the broker can refer to the underwriters to see if they would provide cover when an online quote might just give you a straight refusal.
I've personally used goodtogoinsurance.com. for a European break and felt that the cost was reasonable. However, my cancer was stage 1 and I've finished treatment so I realise that it isn't directly comparable.
I do hope you can get some insurance and that you have a lovely time.

Thankyou Latchbrook. We did look at the recommendations and in fact went through a broker before Christmas. They could not insure us. Will try goodtogoinsurance. I will post if we have any luck.
I had a reasonable quote for Europe £330 from www [dot] insureancewith [dot] com, as have many others on here. If your cancer is pretty standard, under control, and you're not waiting any appointments for subsequent investigations, (normal treatment, check-ins, and scans excepted) these guys are the ones to talk to and you can do it all online. If the online questions need further probing, it prompts you to phone in.
I'm sorry to hear about your husband's condition. It might be helpful to look into specialist travel insurance companies that offer coverage for pre-existing medical conditions. You could also consider seeking advice from a travel insurance broker who can help you find a suitable policy that meets your needs and budget. Also, check the safest renting options for you to worry less about on vacation. Let us know how it goes!
Thankyou, we are doing that. I’ll let people here know when we are successful.
Hi there! Very interested in your question as I’m trying to do exactly the same but for long haul. I’m the patient, also receiving palliative chemo/immuno for Stage IV lung cancer. Like your husband i’m generally fit as a fiddle. Any joy for you yet?
