My father has recently been diagnosed with Mesothelioma, after 3 cancers cured we thought he was in the clear then this bombshell. He wants to go away for Christmas to the Canary Islands which I have booked and agreed with the Chemotherapy nurses is fine as the treatment can work around the trip.
He is very strong and well in himself and is not on any painkillers in fact you would not really know he had this disease but for shortness of breath on long walks , so we are still trying to come to terms with it. I am finding it very hard to get travel insurance for him that is not coming out at above £2,000 which is more than his weeks holiday with £15 millions of cover which is quite frankly ludicrous. It breaks my heart to see insurance companies make it harder for people unnecessarily and make more money from the vulnerable and their families who do not have the money. Can anyone help with a reasonable travel Insurer for a terminal cancer patient who is still quite well.
Hi Redwings and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
Christmas in the Canary Islands sounds lovely but unfortunately, as you've found, it can be more difficult to find reasonably priced travel insurance with a cancer diagnosis.
Have you had chance to look at the recommendations in the 'recommended travel insurance' thread yet? If not, clicking on the link I've created will take you straight there. You might also want to look at this thread as it includes a link to a Travel Insurance Directory.
Most people recommend that it's best to phone the insurance companies rather than try and do online quotes as often at the end of the online quote it will tell you to phone the company and you'll then have to go through all the information again. Also, sometimes the broker can refer to the underwriters to see if they would provide cover when an online quote might just give you a straight refusal.
Do come back and let us know how you get on
