Hello I have low grade serous ovarian cancer, I was stage 3c ,after surgery I was left with defined disease under the surface ,I had chemo and all was good, but in February I had progressive disease around the liver and near the spleen ,I was recommenced hormonal treatment and it’s responding well ,I’m aware there can offer active treatment but not a cure ,So when my daughter moved to the USA this year and is getting married in March I jumped at the change of being able to go ,we booked the holiday for March ,and then I looked at travel insurance I,ve been quoted £1400,00 what a joke I can’t afford that ,at this moment in time im fit and well ,don’t even need insurance for the cancer but have to tell them ,any one have any ideas where I could get it cheaper ,would hate to miss out on once in a life time trip ,please any help I would be very grateful
Hi Mrsyoda and a very warm welcome to the online community
A trip to the USA to be at your daughter's wedding sounds wonderful but, as you've found, getting reasonably priced travel insurance can be difficult when you've had a cancer diagnosis.
I don't know if you've had chance to look through the recommended travel insurance thread yet, as it's where the majority of recommendations from other forum members are. If not, clicking on the link I've created will take you straight there. You might also want to look at this thread as it includes a link to a Travel Insurance Directory.
Most people here say that it's best to phone the insurance companies rather than try and do online quotes as often at the end of the online quote it will tell you to phone the company and you'll then have to go through all the information again. Also sometimes the broker can refer to the underwriters to see if they would provide cover when an online quote might just give you a straight refusal.
Make sure that you have all the information to hand about your diagnosis and treatment before contacting the insurers. This is a list of things an insurance provider might want to know when you're applying for insurance. Some providers might ask for a letter from your doctor saying that you are well enough to travel. This could come from your cancer team or GP.
I do hope that you can find some reasonably priced travel insurance so that you don't have to cancel your trip.
Do come back and let us know how you get on
