If travellers to Uk present at hospital with a serious or minor condition they are treated and given the best care possible most are not asked to pay for their care even after the event
Why is it not possible to actually offer free treatment here and in exchange we could have free care overseas. Government could recover costs from each other. NHS would probably recover more money than currently but Uk citizen’s would get reciprocated benefit without costly insurance like the E111 arrangements. It could all be part of trade agreement negotiations
But that would then destroy the travel insurance industry...!
And how would that work for countries that do not have a system like we have in the UK. Many are insurance based or rely on some form of co-pay. A quick check shows only 32 countries out of 193 (in the UN) have a similar system to us. That leaves a lot where this would not work.
