I am currently undergoing treatment for multiple myeloma. I have completed stem cell transplant and expect some degree of reasonable remission before the disease returns which is a fact with this incurable disease.
My specialists contact me monthly to discuss my blood test results but short term risks are minimal. If I began to feel seriously unwell I could book my return flight early and seek medical help on my return. There would be no need to seek medical assistance from USA drs or any other country of destination
Why are insurance companies charging so much in these circumstances. In my case my son owns house and my accommodation is zero cost. In emergency my family could get me to airport but the risk of this being required is no greater than any other traveller
I totally agree. Most travel insurance for cancer patients is a total rip off. The risk to the insurance company is probably far higher if you've had a past stroke or heart attack, but they seem to load cancer premiums more.
I went to the USA just before Christmas and used my bank provided insurance. Having discussed with them they excluded any issues for my cancer, but like you, the chances of needing cancer related treatment whilst away was miniscule. I book last minute to reduce the risk to my holiday of longer term cancer issues. Maybe you could try a similar approach??
