I have incurable prostate cancer as it has gone to the bones. My wife and I are hoping to go to Spain for 2 months next year and rent a villa with friends. Does anyone have details of travel insurance that would cover me for this period as I can only get a single trip policy for up to 31 days? Thanks in anticipation.

  • Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community

That sounds like a great trip you and your wife have planned for next year. Unfortunately, as you've found, it can be more difficult to find travel insurance when you have cancer.

I don't know if you'd had chance to look through the member's stories thread yet, as it's where the majority of recommendations from other forum members are. If not, clicking on the link I've created will take you straight there.

It is best to phone the insurance companies rather than try and do online quotes as often at the end of the online quote it will tell you to phone the company and you'll then have to go through all the information again. Also sometimes the broker can refer to the underwriters to see if they would provide cover when an online quote might just give you a straight refusal.

Make sure you have all the information to hand about your diagnosis and treatment before contacting the insurers. This is a list of things an insurance provider might want to know when you're applying for insurance. Some providers might ask for a letter from your doctor saying that you are well enough to travel. This could come from your cancer team or from your GP and it might save time if you get the letter before contacting insurance providers.

In the current situation it's important to check if you will be covered for cancellation or illness connected to coronavirus as not all insurance companies are offering this presently.

Do come back and let us know how you get on

  • Hi

My husband and I both just finished treatment for cancer in January 2020.

We checked on here for recommendations and settled on InsuranceWith which is a company set up by someone with cancer who found it hard to get insurance herself.

Anyway..... we’ve got a 15 month policy for £220 and both cancers are covered.

Theres an option for a long stay policy as well which I think is the one you need.

I did it all on line and am very happy with the price as I was expecting to pay much more.

    Hope this helps.
