Hi all,

Last year we booked a once in a lifetime family holiday to Disney Florida, unfortunately in November my husband was diagnosed with Oesophagus Cancer. The good news its treatable :), he has 4 rounds of chemo then an operation and then a final bout of chemo, which is all looking like completing by May. Our oncologist and cancer team have advised to not cancel the holiday (we have already paid the deposit and some) so now i am trying to find insurance cover that wont render the trip unaffordable. As with most probably all of you, my husband doesn't get paid sick pay whilst off work, only statutory and we don't qualify for any other help so i need to be able to find a reasonable insurance :( any help would be so appreciated.

  • Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community

That sounds like a fab holiday you've booked and it's great news that your husband's oesophagus cancer is treatable.

Unfortunately, it can be more difficult to find reasonably priced travel insurance when you have had a cancer diagnosis. I don't know whether you've had a chance to look through the member's stories thread yet as it's where the majority of recommendations from other forum members are. If not, clicking on the link I've created will take you straight there.

It is best to phone the insurance companies rather than try and do online quotes as sometimes they can refer to the underwriters to see if they would cover you when an online quote might just give you a straight refusal.

Make sure you have all the information to hand about your husband's diagnosis and treatment before contacting the insurers. This is a list of common questions that insurers might ask when you're applying for insurance. Some insurers might ask for a letter from your husband's doctor to prove that they have given him permission to travel.

I do hope that you can get some reasonably priced insurance and hope you have a fantastic holiday!
