Unable to find reasonably priced travel insurance

Hello,

We bought a holiday for my mum earlier this year, it's the first time she has ever been abroad for a holiday and she was very excited. We arranged travel insurance for her which was more expensive due to her being older. However, she was given a diagnosis of breast cancer on December 23rd and her insurance company refused to cover her and consequently cancelled the policy. We are now in the process of trying to arrange a new policy, but the quotes we're receiving are astronomical. Does anyone know of any insurance companies we might be able to contact in the hopes of a more reasonable price please?

Thank you in advance.

  • Hi and welcome to the online community

What a lovely thing to do to treat your mum to her first foreign holiday! No wonder she was so excited at the prospect.

Unfortunately, as you have found, it can be more difficult to find reasonably priced travel insurance when you have had a cancer diagnosis. I don't know whether you've had a chance to look through the member's stories thread yet as it's where the majority of recommendations from other forum members are. If not, clicking on the link I've created will take you straight there.

Most people recommend that you phone the travel companies rather than do online quotes as sometimes they can refer to the underwriters to see if they would cover you when an online quote might just give you a straight refusal.

Make sure you have all the information to hand about your mum's diagnosis and treatment before contacting the insurers. This is a list of common questions that insurers might ask when you're applying for insurance. Some insurers might ask for a letter from your mum's doctor to prove that they have given her permission to travel.

I do hope that you can get some reasonably priced insurance and do come back and let us know how you get on.

Thank you so much for your warm welcome and for the advice given re travel insurance.

We've been told it may be better to wait until mum commences her treatment before resuming the search, but I'll certainly be keeping an eye on this forum for pointers.

    Kind regards. X
