Travel insurance and Prostate Cancer

Hi all – I am new to this group, joined today.

Hitherto I have been covered for annual Travel Insurance through my subscription bank account. Some years ago I developed Atrial Fibrillation, I declared this ailment and my insurers gave me cover for an additional £100.

I was diagnosed with prostate cancer in February 2018. I disclosed this to the insurance company and they were prepared to cover me for this disease for a further £250. I didn’t take up the offer at the time as I was having tests, procedures therapies etc for the next few months and wasn’t intending to travel far.

When I came to renew this year, following treatment, I was flatly declined. Apparently they have changed their screening process. My disease is regarded as stable at present (vanishingly low PSA).

Can anyone please assist with the names of Insurers who may look at my case sympathetically?

I’m going for a European city break (Belgium) for three nights on Sunday coming and need insurance urgently.

Many thanks

  • Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community

Unfortunately, as you have found, it can be more difficult to find travel insurance when you have a cancer diagnosis.

I don't know whether you've looked through the Recommended Travel Insurance thread yet as it's where the majority of recommendations from other forum members are. Clicking on the link I've created will take you directly to it if you haven't seen it.

It is best to phone the travel companies rather than try and do online quotes. Make sure you have all the information to hand about your diagnosis and treatment before contacting the insurers. This is a list of common questions that insurers might ask when you're applying for insurance.

Some insurers will ask for a letter from your doctor to prove that they have given you permission to travel. In any case it's always best to make sure that you have checked with your doctor that it's okay to travel and that this has been recorded in your notes in case of a claim.

I do hope that you can get travel insurance and that you all have a lovely trip
