Hello, I am currently giving 24 hr care to my 86yo father who is end of life.

He was diagnosed 3 months ago with oesophageal cancer which has spread to lung and liver.

Was wondering if anyone else is going through the same. X

  • Hi, I have recently gone through the same. I lost my dad in March to oesophageal cancer. We cared for him at home.
I have no words to make it better or anything as it was and still is the most awful thing iv ever gone/going through.
all i can say is spend all the time you can with him, make al the memories, take pictures, videos if he is well enough. I wish I had taken more, but I just didn’t want to accept the diagnosis.
    sending hugs x

  • Hi Sarah,

I'm so sorry to hear this.

I too have recently been through this. We lost my lovely Dad in January to lung cancer.

My only advice would be to spend as much time with him as you can. Talk about his childhood, your childhood, share happy and sad stories and try to get a few laughs in. One lovely memory I have is one Saturday afternoon not long after my Dad's diagnosis, there was just me, my Mum & Dad and sister, my Dad was telling us stories about his childhood in the East End of London. They were so funny and we really laughed......I treasure that afternoon now.

There is a lot of professional help out there, make sure you get as much as you can for you and your Dad.

    Take care. xx

  • Hi I lost my dad 21/04/24

it all happened so fast can’t still believe he’s gone

he had 2 cycles of chemo but his body was frail and due to other health conditions and affects of chemo the drs said no more treatment and was terminal end of life

he only lasted 2 weeks from this point on Broken heart

just have so many questions as to why this happened
