My husband has been diagnosed with secondary cancer of the spine and his consultant has given him approximately 2 years.
We are going on a mini holiday with our children and grandchildren to make lots of memories and they have been very good.
What I want advice on is what to expect in the future, will it be all tiredness, moods and urine problems or what? Because he is awake when the doctor/district nurse visit I can't ask these questions as I don't want to upset him. At the moment he is very relaxed and laid back (which isn't like him) but what do I say when he says "Why me?"or keeps asking who am I talking to on the phone (usually either family or medical)
Hi Donny d ,
My name is Syed and I’m a member of the Community team here at Macmillan. I’m sorry to hear about your husband's diagnosis. It sounds like a very difficult time for you and your family. Whatever your circumstances may be, we will try our best to support you. I hope you can find the Community to be a place of kindness and support.
After reading your message, it would always be best to speak to your husband's GP or medical team in order to have the most relevant information relating to his medical file. Otherwise, on the Community, we have our Ask a Nurse section available. Here, you can ask our team of nurses certain questions you may have around diagnosis, medication and treatment. They aim to respond within 1-3 working days on the site. They provide a general overview and nothing tailored to each individual's case. Please note, we do not have access to medical records at Macmillan.
If you require urgent support, you are welcome to call the Support Line on 0808 808 00 00 or alternatively, click here for webchat. Our nurses are available on this number. They are available everyday from 8am until 8pm.
If there is anything else me or my team can do, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us at community@macillan.org.uk and always remember the Community is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. I wish you, your husband and your family, all the best and hope you can find the answers you need soon.
You are not alone,
Syed
