Feeling very discombobulated (can’t think of another word to describe it)
I knew I wouldn’t want to be at work for Daves birthday so I booked the week off. Then something in my head decided it would be a good idea to book the cottage we always used to go to in the Lakes. Couldn’t get the week I needed in June but managed to book in July (I sobbed in my office when I made the booking ) . Before I knew what I’d done I’d arranged to scatter Daves ashes, have a week in the cottage and 15 members of family are booked to go too. It all snowballed - and now I’m worried. People keep saying “I didn’t think you’d want to go back there yet” etc.
I have two lots of ashes - one to scatter and a smaller one to keep with me forever.
Am I rushing it? Is it too soon? Will I regret it?
Hi Jillybean74,
Am I rushing it?
Is it too soon?
Will I regret it?
There is no wrong or right way and there is no right or wrong time.
Everyone, at the end of their carers journey, has to march to their own beat. This will probably the first time you've been able to dictate your own terms since cancer intruded on your life.
When my wife passed (a little over 2 1/2 years ago), I started packing up and disposing of Marg's clothing about 3 weeks after she went. Some people thought I was being hasty but, to me, the clothes weren't the dearest and fondest memories of my darling. Those will forever be in my heart.
I felt the clothing was a reminder of what was missing, whereas the memories and the love we shared was what I had left.
Do what feels right for you and for the memory of your loved one.
Nothing else matters.
My prayers are for you now.
My hopes and aspirations are for your future.
Peace,
Ewen :-)
