My dad was diagnosed in february with stomach cancer. It would have been diagnosed earlier but he got forgotten about during covid.

He had a bypass operation in april followed by chemo to which he had severe side effects and nearly died as he was just left in the bed in hospital with no treatment and none of us could see him. When i did get to see him i bought him home. Nursed him bk to some kind of health, got him bk on his feet. Since then its been 1 thing after another, blood clots, chest infections, internal bleeds heart attacks and each time he comes back. We are in the process of getting him back on his feet again now.

The biggest problem is that he is scared of eating, he can eat but wont, he also hates fortisips etc, does anyone have any ideas to encourage eating? Im totally out of them Face palm

  • Hi what a wonderful daughter you are.  Sounds like you have done a great job looking after your dad.  Covid has been a problem for a lot of people who need medical care and it's so sad to hear.

Short of asking your dad what he wants to eat, if there even is anything he actually wants, I'm not sure what to suggest.  He must know that he needs to eat to continue to recover so maybe have a very honest conversation with him and try and agree on an eating plan together.

Hopefully someone who has been through something similar will see your post and respond with better advice.

I hope you manage to find a solution.

  • I have tried and tried, he knows he needs to eat and he doesnt want to die but mentally is unable to eat. Physically he can. Its the most frustrating and difficult situation as i know chemo will be refused as he looks so frail Pensive

  • might having an appointment with a psychologist help?

You can also try asking a nurse on this forum to see if they can offer you any other suggestions just CLICK HERE you can also try speaking to MacMillan in case they can point you towards someone or something that might help.  Their number is at the end of my post.
