unfortunately on 30th JULY Dad has ben diagnosed with incurable lung cancer . The worst part is that this has come out of the blue with nothing we can blame that could have had an impact g smoking ( I know this alone doesnt give you cancer)
from his lung biopsy on 22nd June to now hew has gone from 12 st 4 to probs now 10 stone
we're trying everything we can to build him up but even thought there has been a slight improvement in his eating it not enough .
He knows he cant have tablet treatment and he's not well enough for Chemo - so god only knows what is going to happen
I'm at my wits end as to how to help both my parents but especially my dad
Hi Meg10, my name is Anna. My partner was also diagnosed with incurable lung cancer on the 30th July at 46yrs old, again non smoker. Just bad luck. His is a rare and aggressive cancer and has led to him having to have his lung removed 2 weeks ago. Since then, we have been told it's spread to diaphram and chest lining. Chemo is not an option as he has a blood problem to boot apparently. Time is not on his side, his prognosos was originally 12 months, but chances are a lot less now.
I am sorry to hear about your dad, it is such a cruel disease. I don't really have any tips, but just wanted you to know that you are not alone with how you feel. I am terrified, numb, angry to name but a few.
My partner has no appetite and keeps bringing meds up, but we have now got him on fortisip yoghurt drinks and they have helped. Also he finds little and often is better than big meals. Building up may be tough, it may be more about maintaining where he is at now. My man has lost 4 stone in 3 months and rather than wear old clothes, we are buying smaller and he looks better for it if that makes sense. All you can do is just be there, our palliative team are amazing and offer me so much help and support. Have you got the same support? if not, request a referral from GP to them. Here anytime if you want to talk.
Sending love and best wishes to you all - Anna x
Anna,
thank you for your message & Bless your heart, mine goes out to you all
dad has had fortisip for a good few weeks now which he doesn't mind having. It's all the other foods , although he asked for and managed a McDs happy meal yesterday
Today he did spectacularly in getting up to hospital for an x-ray and an oncologists chat but that x-ray showed an increase in mass in his right lung . Fingers crossed its a result of an infection, so he has a 2week course of antibiotics and not as a result of the cancer. I can really just hope and pray
We do have a Macmillan nurse that goes to see dad , she's been a couple of times over the last few weeks but mainly fir him
Again my love and thoughts go to you so we can both keep strong x
