Please help me

I called an ambulance for my uncle who has terminal pancreatic cancer on Tuesday night as he was literally out of his mind with pain. They came and gave him some gas and air, but left soon afterwards saying "No point taking you to hospital. It's rammed".

An hour later, when everyone had gone to bed, I put him in my car and drove him to the hospital. He was sick like nothing I've seen before, but worse was to come.

In A&E they put an NG tube in. I have NEVER been so traumatised in my entire life. What with his distress, the Vesuvius amount of black vomit, the screaming and gurgling I fainted - not a drop down faint, I manaded to get myself to the ground.

Anyway, once this procedure was done he had some morphine - thank god for the humble poppy - and then a CT scan which showed a bowel obstruction and pulmonary embolism. There is no surgery. They can 'only make him comfortable'.

  1. He's on the ward now, sucking on Calippos. How much more of this fucking (sorry) hell is there left? Please tell me that it will soon be over.
  • Vicbach I am so sorry your uncle is going through all this.  I can see how much you love and care for him.  I am sure he knows this and despite all the horror is secure in your love.  I am sure the morphine has taken your uncle out of pain and the nurses are ensuring he is indeed comfortable in this last part of his life.  Thinking of you Vicbach and your uncle.  JaneyC

  • Vicbach I’ve just read your post and was struck by the distress you and your uncle are going through… I hope that the hospital have managed to ease his symptoms and offer you some support at such a terrible time… you can ask for the Palliative care team to be involved if they aren’t already, they would be very helpful for you I’m sure… you are both in my thoughts xx
