Hello, I’ve just found this forum and I feel for each and every member here.  My sister has recently been diagnosed with inoperable pancreatic cancer which has spread to her liver and spleen.

She has had one session of chemo (palliative) but reacted very badly and was hospitalised for 10 days. She is due to see consultant on Wednesday to decide where she goes from here.
Obviously we are all overwhelmed by this, she lives with her husband and I live just a few miles away so see her most days.  I’m really worried about the fact that she seems to have emotionally shut down.... she is acting as though nothing is wrong, how do I help her come to terms her diagnosis?

  • Hello Tullyhaz

I am truly sorry to read that your sister has been diagnosed with inoperable pancreatic cancer, and that it has spread to her liver and spleen.

I understand that she will be seeing the consultant tomorrow and this must be an extremely anxious time for you all. I am sorry, but I don't know enough about pancreatic cancer to give your any experienced advise, but I did want you to know that we are all here for you.

I notice that you have posted in the ask an information and support advisor, and was answered by Jenna, who offered some guidance on areas of the site to visit, in addition you may like to join Pancreatic Cancer Forum, where there are people who will better understand what your sister is going through and where I hope you will find some more support for yourself also.

You know your sister best, maybe she is trying to be strong for everyone else, possibly she is waiting until she has spoken to the consultant  to know what her next steps are. Are you able to just let her know, when she is ready to talk, you will be there for her? I hope in her time she will do that and you are able to support her fully at that time.

Hoping for some positives from tomorrows meeting..

    Sending love and light.
