Lymphadema of pelvis and leg

Hi all,

I'm being treated for a femoral vein blood clot which they now suspect may have been caused by the start of pelvic lymphoedema. Anyone on here had anything similar? I can't be referred to the Lymphodema clinic atm as I'm only onto my ninth day of blood thinners. My leg and groin are really swollen still and painful especially when walking and moving. I'm supposed to be starting a new job on 7 Nov but I've had to tell them so am fully expecting offer to be withdrawn and can't say I'd blame them. The financial side can wait as I have some savings. I'm more interested in whether my leg will ever start to decrease in size. To give you an idea my vital statistics are

calf right 18 left 15

thigh right 28 left 21

Thanks all xx

  • Hi

I haven't had anything similar but thought I'd pop on to suggest that you might also want to join and post this in the lymphoedema support group as you'll then connect directly with others who may have experienced this.

If this is something that you'd like to do, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

It would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and treatment to date into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

  • Thanks Latchbrook. I will write a bio. I will also look at the lymphoedema support group page but will hold off commenting until I see the anticoagulant clinic on Monday as my GP said it is only her thought/suggestion that I may also have lymphoedema. I personally think they have missed something cancer wise but they won't have it. All my bloods were okay BUT they never checked tumour markers! I also had a pelvic and intravaginal ultrasound which showed no sign of any masses anywhere in the region of my original cancer. I am still not convinced but I supppose they are the experts.....
