My partner (a further education English teacher for 15!!! YEARS!!! in various further education colleges locally ie all public sector but various ""trusts""! ) started treatment for breast cancer after Easter. She is on full pay till September only because she started last September 2018 at her last job . She has been a teacher employed by the department of education for nearly 20 YEARS!! Explain please... PS I have lost work since Easter as looking after her.

sorry to hear about your wife, I do not know how further education works but with community schools the teachers are employed by their local authority even though pay and conditions are done generally at a national level and the "trusts" make the process more complex.
When you say you have lost work does I am guessing this perhaps means you are self employed - if so I am afraid I have no knowledge of this and perhaps the best suggestion might be to ask for some support from the (Missing Forum) or ring the helpline here 0808 808 0000
