Hi
I was just told last week that I have a malignant colon cancer in my ascending colon (right side).
Picked up through screening. This is the first year that the screening age limit was moved up to 50 years old & I had a FIT positive. I was thinking I had Irritable bowels related to the menopause!! I was wrong
Not much more information was given, other than that it may be genetic (although I have no family history of bowel cancer)…so a lot of unknowns right now. Still waiting to be staged/graded.
I’m scared silly. The wait is excruciating. How did you deal with the anxiety of the wait itself??
just wondering if there is anyone out there who has had colon cancer on the right side, what sort of treatment they had, … I’m new to this site and still functioning in a suspended animation, walking-through-treacle sort of state!!
Hope to gain support through the forum. I don’t want to add extra worry to my hubby & kids

Hi SoniBee and a very warm welcome to the Macmillan Community but sorry to hear about your diagnosis.
Navigating a cancer journey can be such a stressful and challenging time but getting support from people who have walked or are walking the ‘exact same' journey can help a lot. (I have a completely different cancer).
This New to Community area is like our reception desk where we look to try and direct you to the best part of the Community for you to get support.
The Community is actually divided into dedicated Support Groups (Discussion Rooms)…….. but I do see that you have already joined and put up a post in our dedicated so can I recommend that you look to join and put up your own post in our dedicated Bowel (colon and rectum) cancer support group.
This group is a safe place to talk to others with a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support.
The Macmillan Support Line is open between 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00…… this service provides cancer information, practical information, emotional support, benefits/financial guidance or just a listening ear.
We also have our Ask an Expert section but do allow 3 working days for a reply.
Talking to people ‘face to face’ can be very helpful so do check to see if you have any Local Macmillan Support in your area, do also check for a local Maggie's Centre as these folks are amazing.
Do get back to me if you need further help navigating the community.
Hi Busboy what type of cancer have you been diagnosed with or are you still in the diagnosis process?
I know this journey every so well as I have been treated for and lived with 2 rare types of blood cancer (one incurable) for over 25 years.
They just said I've lukemia and just started chemo
Hi again Busboy ..... I have/had 2 types of very rare and hard to treat types of T-Cell Non Hodgkin's Lymphoma's for over 25 years...... so I do understand the journey you are on.
You may know that there are various types of Leukaemia's so the links below will take you to our various groups....
Acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL)
Acute Myeloid Leukaemia (AML)
Chronic myeloid leukaemia (CML)
.....and our general Leukaemia group that covers the types that don't have a dedicated group.
To connect with a group click on the “Bold Italic Links” I have created above …… then once the group page opens click in the [Black - Click to Join - Banner] that appears at the bottom of the page and this will then confirm that you have joined the group.
When you are ready……. you can introduce yourself by putting up your very own post by clicking [+ Create new post] or [+] in the top right of the group page.
If you need more help navigating the community do get back to me.
Hiyah, I just wanted to say hang in there too, I am recently diagnosed with breast cancer and struggling too waiting to find out where I am at. The wait is horrific! I cant speak to having colon cancer but I did have my colon/rectum all removed when I was in my 21. Ive travelled the world since, had three kids worked and lived abroad for a number of years. I know that the thought that you might be terrified about a bag and I just wanted to know that other than the possible loss of career as a belly dancer, its totally doable. Sending you lots of good thoughts and hoping you get the news you want really soon x
Thank you for your supportive post!!!
Giving up a career as a belly dancer!! lol! I’m really gutted about that, but the world has been spared seeing what can only be described as an uncoordinated worm on the dance floor!
You are so strong to have had such major surgery at such a young age!! Super woman! What’s amazing is how this has not stopped you in any way when it comes to getting the most out of life!! It’s so empowering!!
You are amazing!! Thank you!!
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
