Hi there,

My mum was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer last July (2021).

We initially were told that they could operate but wanted to treat the are with chemo first to shrink the tumour.

She went ahead and had her first round of chemo, she then had a CT scan And a MRI scan and it was diagnosed that she now had a couple of leisions in the liver.

She then was advised to have more chemo.

I felt my mum and dad were not understanding the oncologist's plan so decided, with my mums consent to book a meeting with him.

He was incredibly awkward and uncomfortable throughout the 10 minute meeting and told be that surgery was not longer an option and that her cancer was in fact stage 4 in the pancreas and that they are just managing it and that their plan is to get her to July for my wedding.

As far as I am concerned, my mum still thinks she is going to finish this round of chemo and have an operation and it'll be over...... why issue still under this illusion that that is the oncologists plans.

It brakes my heart that I now know this about my mums condition but she doesn't, she is really struggling with the chemo at the moment and has pain in her front lower abdomen.

Im not really sure why im telling the forum this but I don't really know what else to do in this situation.

  • Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I'm really sorry to read how poorly your mum is and it must be incredibly hard knowing her prognosis when she doesn't.

As the community is divided up into different support groups I'm going to recommend that you join the supporting someone with incurable cancer group where you can discuss your emotions as well as how best to support your mum with others who are in a similar situation. Clicking on the link I've created will take you there where you can join and then post in the same way as you did here.

If you have any difficulty navigating the community just drop me a reply and I'll be pleased to help
