My husband 34 has 2 types of Leukaemia (Acute Myloid being one, I can’t remember the other type) we found out in November last year, he was being very positive got through 2 rounds of sh**y chemotherapy and waiting on a stem cell transplant.
The stem cell transplant was due next week, however we have been told that the leukaemia has returned & he needs another round of chemotherapy before going for a transplant (which now might not be as effective)
I suppose I’m messaging because I feel hopeless & scared I could lose my best friend & fantastic dad to our daughter and I’m tired of being strong (which of course I will continue to be strong for him) and I just wondered if anyone felt the same?
Hi and warm welcome to the Macmillan Online Community although sorry that you had to find us and especially sorry to hear about your husbands diagnosis and the challenges you are both facing.
I am Mike Thehighlander and I help out around our blood cancer groups. Although I had a rare type of skin NHL diagnosed way back in 1999 I did go on to have two Allo (donor) Stem Cell Transplants (SCT) in June 2014 then Oct 2015 and Remission achieved for the first time in 17 years in Sep 2016...... all very hard work but today I continue to live the dream (hit my name to see my story)
The SCT journey can be very challenging, it’s rather a unique journey but can provide fantastic rewards. But can be a hard journey in so many ways but talking with others who are walking the same type of journey will help you navigate this difficult time.
The Community is organised into cancer specific support groups so can I recommend you join our supportive Stem cell transplant group as this will be a good place to connect with patients and families navigating the same type of treatment journey.
To join a group just click on the link above then choose 'click to join' or 'join' (depending on the device you're using) on the page that opens.
You can then introduce yourself by putting up a ‘New Thread’ or hit the box with the X on the top right (phones), you could just copy and paste the text from this your first post. You can also join in with existing ‘Discussions’ by clicking on 'reply'.
It’s always good to talk and the Macmillan Support Services provides lots of information, support, financial guidance or just a listening ear.
Most services are open 8am to 8pm, 7 days a week and it's free to call on 0808 808 00 00 have a look by Clicking here to see what is available and we also have our Ask an Expert section, but do allow two working days for replies from our expert team.
I will keep an eye open for you in the Stem cell transplant Group.
((hugs))
Thank you, I have joined it.
It’s nice to know people have come through the other side of it. Just feels very tough right now.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
