Hello,
I hope I am messaging in the right area of the site!
I have been recently diagnosed with Bowen’s disease and was just wondering if anyone else has experience of this. My diagnose follows excision of two BCCs - the treatment of the latest was by extensive (well it seemed so to me!) MOHs surgery.
I believe I must now avoid all sun exposure so If you have recommendations for the best sun screens ( I have read that some can be carcinogenic themselves!!) and other advice I would be most grateful .....
Hi and warm welcome to the Macmillan Online Community although sorry that you had to find us and especially sorry to hear about your diagnosis.
A cancer diagnosis can be challenging in so many ways but talking with others who are walking the same type of cancer treatment journey will help you navigate this difficult time.
I was actually diagnosed in 1999 with a rather rare incurable skin blood cancer where at times 70% of my body was covered in tumours. You can’t cut out a skin blood cancer so have had years of skin treatment, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and two Stem Cell Transplants...... so I have to be very carful in the sun and am way up the list for developing skin cancer.
I use a factor 50 sun cream at all times. My Dermatologist recommended that I only use sun creams that are recommended by Cancer Research or just talk with my local Pharmacist. You could put your question to our Ask an Expert section, but do allow two working days for replies from our expert team.
I see you have connected in with our Skin cancer group as this will be a good place to connect with patients and families navigating the same type of cancer treatment journey.
It’s always good to talk and the Macmillan Support Services provides lots of information, support, financial guidance or just a listening ear.
Most services are open 8am to 8pm, 7 days a week and it's free to call on 0808 808 00 00 have a look by Clicking here to see what is available
All the very best
