I Don't Know If I Should Be Here!

As the title says I don't know if I should be here. Why?  Because I don't know if I have cancer or not.

In October 2019 my GP arranged for me to be seen by my local hospital's Urology dept because my bladder was troublesome.  The next week I had an ultrasound scan followed the next week later by a camera examination of my urethra and bladder (cystoscopy).  A few days later I was summoned for a CT scan of my kidneys. This all seemed very urgent and ominous!

A month later I saw the urinary specialist and he told me that there was a lump on one of my kidneys. I assumed tumour but the specialist said it might be or it could be a renal cell cluster - time would tell. Further CT scans in June and November 2020 and in January 2021 gave no definitive proof of what was wrong.

So now you see why I don't know if I should be here!  I'd like to lurk in here if that's agreeable so I can get some idea of what might, or might not, await me.

  • Hi  and warm welcome to the Macmillan Online Community although sorry that you had to find us but I see you have in the past posted a question to our nurse team so welcome back.

Should you be hear or not is not an issue, the main thing is you can find a safe place to ‘lurk’ (many members do just that and never post) and gather info and where required post questions and get support.

We have our Kidney cancer group if it helps. To join the group just click on the link above then choose 'click to join' or 'join' (depending on the device you're using) on the page that opens.

You can then introduce yourself by putting up a ‘New Thread’ or hit the box with the X on the top right (phones), you could just copy and paste the text from this your first post. You can also join in with existing ‘Discussions’ by clicking on 'reply'.

It’s always good to talk and the Macmillan Support Services provides lots of information, support or just a listening ear.

Most services are open 8am to 8pm, 7 days a week and it's free to call on 0808 808 00 00 have a look by Clicking here to see what is available and we also have our Ask an Expert section, but do allow two working days for replies from our expert team.

To find information covering diagnosis, treatments and pages covering most types of cancers can be found on our Online Information and Support Section

I don't get to see the urologist. We talk on the phone because of Covid and I get the feeling that I am being fobbed off with any old non-commital guff.  My next such "appointment" is in March 2022.

  • Hi  have you really got to wait till March 2022?!

I should ask for one much sooner than that, especially if you've been discussed at MDT.

Get your GP to ask if you don't feel you'll get anywhere by yourself. You certainly don't want to wait best part of a year. That's ridiculous!
