How do i find people to speak to about who went through what i went through. with losing my grandad .. i dunno how to cope and would like to hear people’s positive stories

  • Hi  and welcome to the Online Community but sorry that you had to find us and especially sorry to hear about the lose of your grandad, I am so sorry that you are still coming to terms with this.

I lost my mum back in November, not to cancer but it was sudden and I am only now reflecting back on her life and able to deal well with her lose.

I was actually advised not to be in hospital when she died as the area she was in was not COVID secure and I was in the Clinically Vulnerable Group. It was hard at the time but on reflection the best decision for my own family.

The community has various support groups so can I recommend our Bereaved family and friends group as this will be a good place to connect with people on the same pathway.

To join a group just click on the link above then choose 'click to join' or 'join' (depending on the device you're using) on the page that opens.

You can then introduce yourself by putting up a ‘New Thread’ or hit the box with the X on the top right (phones), you could just copy and paste the text from this your first post. You can also join in with existing ‘Discussions’ by clicking on 'reply'.

Talking to people face to face can indeed help a lot but during these strange times it’s not that available but do check to see if you have any Local Macmillan Support in your area has opened up or a Maggie’s Centre as these folks are amazing and a lot of these services have moved onto online video support. Our local Maggie’s (Inverness) are opening up again fir one on one support.

Macmillan Support Services on 0808 808 00 00 - most services are open 8am to 8pm, 7 days a week Clicking here to see what is available.

This service provides lots of cancer information, support or just a listening ear.

We also have our Ask an Expert section, but do allow two working days for replies from our expert team.

All the very best and do hope you find the support you need ((hugs))
