Hi everyone,

Just setting up a new chat thread for September. If you would like to catch up on August's chat you can click here. Please note that it's now locked, so you won’t be able to reply to that thread.

The chit chat thread is for: Daily Life chit chat for bloods, scans, appointments, going shopping, cutting grass, reading, watching some thing decent on TV - whatever your day has in store for you. That is daily life!

  • Well Monday Ellie, back to the old routine. Good luck with the scans. Be winter soon and I can start weaving baskets again. Still want one lol? What happened to the hobby thread by the way?

  • The first phone in our house when I was a child was party line. As for the record I'm the youngest of 6 so the oldest had a few 78s. When I got married our first tv was rented. So think I'm older than you. Lol. Xx

  • Guten  Abend Patrick, I remember them all. Well not the Shillings as they were before my time here Grinning. Hard to believe how excited we were getting colour television etc. times have changed a lot but I suppose so have we. Hope you and Mrs Patrick are going fine . Love to you both from

  • Hiya TVman and Mrs TVman. When I started to have that horrible infection I took very dizzy too. BP was very low so it’s a good thing you ordered a monitor. Stopped my BP tablets for a few days and it was ok again. Fingers crossed you get sorted very quickly.

Good luck for pending appointments, scans and the whole spectrum, especially for Ellie who is having so many at present. Have a cosy evening everyone and stay warm. Getting rather chilly here already. Frost this morning once again. Winter is getting slowly ready to pounce. Love from

  • Hi Patrick, I remember every single one and I was talking about some of them to someone lately about them.

Party telephone lines? We called them shared lines and we shared with someone around the corner.

Shilling in the slot? My cousin was a meter man, he collected the shillings and he and several of his co-collectors were occasionally robbed. Ours was for gas and it was manufactured then in Belfast where I grew up and smelt awful. I remember one night I was hanging around a few streets away and all of a sudden the sky went totally red! I really thought it was the end of the world! One of the gas storage tanks had been bombed but there was no sound - that came in a couple of seconds. I understood then that light travels faster than sound.

Just one more that isn't there Patrick, although we didn't rent from them,Slot TV was in Northern Ireland so if your TV was working and your slot jammed, you didn't have any TV and had to call the TV rental company.

Absolutely last comment, promise. If you had lived over here and your TV broke down, I may have come out to fix it. If it was a big job, I took it back to the workshop and left a loan set for a few days until it was repaired.

  • Hi Tvman

I was just thinking that your problem sounds very like Labyrinthitis....which I was diagnosed with a couple of years ago. It lasted a couple of weeks, then cleared.

    It's an inner ear infection....

    Hope you're feeling better!

  • Patrick, like Moi I remember them all too! I was an usherette in the cinema when there was an A & B film on plus the Trailers for what was to come. My husband was a Doorman too. We did these jobs at the weekend while saving up to get married ( my dad was a Cinema Manager).
This Thursday is our 54th Wedding Anniversary. We had planned to be in Salou but had to cancel. Then we planned a meal out. Now having a meal in because my face is black and white with bruising but whatever we do, we will enjoy it!

  • Hi Tvman, That doesn’t sound good. At least you were sitting down, you could have had a nasty fall and you certainly don’t want that. As others have said there are quite a few things that can cause dizzy spells etc that is why, like I had to do, you need to get it checked out thoroughly!

When you were in hospital recently, did they arrange for you to go back for other tests if things did not settle? If not, they should have done. Please get onto them pal and don’t let this go on until you do hurt yourself. I wouldn’t like that!

Vince is to have an angiogram soon as the tablets and spray given by the cardiologist don’t seem to be doing what they are meant to do. One thing after another!

  • Hi Annette, so sorry to hear about Vince's heart problems. I remember going through those tests just before and after my heart attack. Is the spray a GTN spray? My spray is in my medical box beside me on my bedside table. Like most people I get an instant headache as soon as I spray under my tongue and the taste is dreadful but medics will say that the discomfort lasts just a short while and the benefits to my heart vastly outweigh the discomfort.

I was discharged from the hospital and no mention of any follow-up. I'm under the GP treatment now and if it happens again I'll be straight on the phone to them. I have asked the GP to check the report from the consultant in the hospital.

I am self analysing to try and find what could have caused it. At the moment my best thoughts are that I have been trying to do too much outside which you know only too well that I'm guilty of such a thing..

Sorry to hear that you had to cancel your Salou trip, I know how important that is to you and Vince. I can't blame you either for cancelling your meal out as you would be very self aware of how you're looking right now.

Hope you can put that episode behind you Annette and you get back to normal soon.

    Tvman xx
