Morning all, hope you are all keeping well.
Had an appointment with my Oncologist yesterday, he authorised another 9 chemo's. But I haven't yet had a scan to see what effect the first round of chemo has had. He said on the basis of questions he's asked me, my responses and the look of the area concerned is a clear indicator that the chemo has had some effect on the tumour. This is positive news right? But still I am mentally unable to accept it and remain pessimistic to safeguard myself. I believe this is because I have no faith and went through such a bad rollercoaster time when they were trying to find a diagnosis. I mean amongst other mishaps they completed a scan and advised me it wasn't cancer I had a bleed. Yeah right, I actually had a 15 cm tumour, how the hells bells do you miss that on a scan huh!! Now when they give me positive news, I struggle to accept it as I'm so scared they'll give me hope but then only take it away again down the line. Does anybody else feel this way?
Food shopping today and I think a cream cake is in order! Hope you all enjoy your day whatever it is you may be doing.
Hi Marie, Please let me know.if all goes well with replacing your picc line. I hope you told them you didn’t “want Covid” so you are not to blame if they are inconvenienced! What a cheek plying it is your fault and it sounds ridiculous they would blame you!
Good luck and I hope the antibiotics send Covid packing!
Love Annette x
Hi Marie, how are you doing today hope you have been able to get some rest and are feeling a little stronger and hopefully your minds in a better place too, how were things at the hospital yesterday with your PICC line, It's not right how they made you come to them when they know how difficult things are for you, and hope they treated you well and sorted your PICC quickly. Have you managed to relax and do something to help your mood and maybe eating a little something as well, have a word with your DN tomorrow about your burn, maybe put your mind at ease. Please take care and say hi to Dave for me.
Eddie xx
Good morning. I believe I am moving in the right direction. The sickness subsided yesterday and I did manage to eat a small amount. Unfortunately I still have diarrhea and usually in a morning. Feel dreadful first thing. I'm so confused as to what is causing this sickness and diarrhea. It's a symptom of COVID but also a common side effect of the antibiotics and symptoms of infection. It's all so confusing. I'm extremely drowsy and tired too. Even though I'm sleeping. District nurse is coming today so I shall find out how the wound is. I believe there is a slight smell although on looking at it it seems quite dry. Fingers crossed huh. Went to get my picc line dressing changed. Nobody was there when I arrived and they ushered me into a side room. It all went okay but you was right I didn't feel well at all on being dragged up there. Nobody seemed to offer up an explanation other than there's nobody else to do it. Ridiculous isn't it. My mood is better than it was the other day but it would be nice to start getting some reprieve now
Oh Eddie I'm so so pleased about the oncology news. Awesome!!!!! You did right in defending your corner even though you shouldn't have that fight under the circumstances. Well done, ace news and hope everything goes to plan.
How are you today? Got anything on?
Hi Annette on arriving to get picc line done there were no other patients there. She ushered me into a side room. She was very apologetic but offered up no explanation other than there's nobody else to do it. Ridiculous isn't it. At least she wasn't horrid like that other nurse I spoke to who took her bad day out on me. Anyway all went well. You was right though really took it out on me going up there, felt dreadful. Took the wheelchair and didn't move from there. Hope you're keeping well and having a lovely day X
Hi Marie, I am pleased it went ok and it’s done now. I think they would have made sure there were no other patients around, knowing you have Covid they wouldn’t want to spread it round. It makes me wonder if she said she was the only one who could do it, was that because of Covid or because no one else had the training to do it!!
Our granddaughter has just arrived, I am showing her how to do Calligraphy and she loves it! She has never worked with ink before! I am enjoying it too!
I hope you feel better soon!
Love Annette x
Hi Marie, I'm glad there's been a little improvement, sadly it can take time getting through covid, how soon after taking antibiotics did you get diarrhoea, it's hard to say what caused it, but plenty of water and fruit juice "check they contain potassium and sodium" will help but not apple juice and avoid sweet foods especially any with artificial sweeteners and caffeine, clear broths will help as well. How long is your antibiotic course, don't worry about the smell from the burn eschar often has an odour and some dressings can cause an odour as well, I hope your DN was helpful.
Pretty shoddy treatment at the hospital, at least you got it done, and not surprised you felt awful for going, hope your resting now and feeling a little better.
Oncology all good, and in record time, I'm ok thank you Marie, got my eating chart to see how my dysphagia is affecting me, my RSI index score is 24, so not good, been to exercise group and to RT with Mandy, who's coping well so far.
How are Dave and Amy doing,
love Eddie xx
Good afternoon. Thank you for the well wishes and tips Eddie. I really appreciate them. You're so knowledgeable and helpful, thank you. I'm definitely on the mend. Stomach and diarrhea is much better than it was, it's just still lingering slightly. I've had diarrhea all the way through COVID and all the way through antibiotics. I've just taken my last antibiotic. DN have been fab. The one that came on Monday said it was healing well. She said there was a slight green tinge. She took a picture to show her senior and said she'd be in touch should there be a problem. I didn't hear anything so no news is good news so to speak. Today palliative nurse Helen has been. So good to see her. She changed the dressings for today and said it is looking good.
Sorry to hear your RSA score wasn't great. Will that improve? But really pleased to hear Mandy is doing well, that's ace news and give her a big love from me. Dave and Amy are both doing well and feeling much better. Dave is already back at work but said he's feeling about 85%. Amy was the last to get it but is doing okay. We're aiming to go for a walk out tomorrow, fingers crossed. Start to rebuild our strength.
How are you feeling today and what are you up to X
You're right in that they don't seem to have many people trained to do it. Which is strange because when I've had chemo I see there are a lot of people who have them. How lovely doing calligraphy with your granddaughter. That's ace!! I hope you both had much fun. What a wonderful activity to do X
Good afternoon Marie, so pleased you are feeling a little better, fingers crossed your tummy and bowels will soon be good. Usually diarrhoea caused by antibiotics doesn't last long. So hopefully now your off them things will improve.
It's nice to know your DN is delegating, and she and PCN Helen are both happy with your burn, I hope that puts your mind at ease, DN's and PCN's are fab aren'tthey, is Helen your assigned nurse, I hope she is, you obviously like and trust her.
Marie, there's a new lady on the forum #Teresa22who has her PICC line done at home!.
My RSA is all new to me, I know a score of 13 means you have significant reflux disease so 24 means, I don't know what, there are treatments but as I won't be seen for 8 weeks, I'm guessing I just carry on, did get a call from the clinic this morning, she's put me on the priority list. though not on my priority list.
Thank you Marie, Mandys doing well with the RT though early days and I will pass on your love.
Nice to hear Dave and Amy are doing well and your planning a little walk tomorrow, will that be the park, be lovely for you to get out, supposed to be nice weather so the ice cream van should be there, be careful.
I'm ok, tired and busy, had my dysphagia incall, been for my bloods & PSA, results Friday, have a massage soon then taking Mandy for RT, No6 of 10, then feet up when finished.
Say hi to Dave and Amy for me, take care
love Eddie xx
Good morning. Still feeling better than I was thank you. Still have the tummy and bowel morning thing but it does ware off as the morning goes on. Went for a walk with Amy yesterday. We went to the local high street and browsed the charity shops. We went to the pudding pantry and had a breakfast. Bad idea!! It wasn't very nice at all. Lots of unusual flavours that didn't come together at all. It triggered my tummy so that didn't help. I'm at GP's this morning for that blood test. When I had my eyes tested the optician pointed out that a couple of growths on my eyelids could indicate high cholesterol so I'm having the test. Later district nurses are coming out to redress the burns. Everything seems okay but I'll know more when they've been. Helen is my assigned nurse yes. She's great. Get on with her really well and she goes above and beyond. She's fab!! I'm really pleased for Teresa and that she gets her picc line done at home. It only goes to prove that it can be done and is a failing at my end. I really hope you get seen soon regarding your RSA. Waiting times are ridiculous especially when you're suffering and waiting on treatment. Dreadful!! I hope your massage helped with your tiredness and after your busy day you got time to rest. It really does catch up with you when you have a lot on doesn't it. Take it easy. How are you feeling today? X
