Pessimistic and no faith!

Morning all, hope you are all keeping well.

Had an appointment with my Oncologist yesterday, he authorised another 9 chemo's. But I haven't yet had a scan to see what effect the first round of chemo has had. He said on the basis of questions he's asked  me, my responses and the look of the area concerned is a clear indicator that the chemo has had some effect on the tumour. This is positive news right? But still I am mentally unable to accept it and remain pessimistic to safeguard myself. I believe this is because I have no faith and went through such a bad rollercoaster time when they were trying to find a diagnosis. I mean amongst other mishaps they completed a scan and advised me it wasn't cancer I had a bleed. Yeah right, I actually had a 15 cm tumour, how the hells bells do you miss that on a scan huh!! Now when they give me positive news, I struggle to accept it as I'm so scared they'll give me hope but then only take it away again down the line. Does anybody else feel this way?

Food shopping today and I think a cream cake is in order! Hope you all enjoy your day whatever it is you may be doing.

  • Hi Marie, I am so sorry to read you both tested positive for Covid. There does seem to be a lot of it about recently.  Did your water bottle burst, or did you just lie it on your chest when maybe t was too hot? A burn is a very sore thing, even just a small one. I hope the District Nurse helped and it heals quickly!

  • Good morning. Unfortunately I haven't been able to do anything but rest. I've felt bad. Dave is better than me but he's had it longer. It's a strange thing. Considering we both have COVID we have different symptoms. The district nurse was meant to come today to take off the dressings but she rang and postponed it to Friday. Hopefully I'll be able to go change the picc line this weekend. I've exceeded the expected 10 days but what else can you do in these circumstances. I'll see how I am this weekend. How are you? Have you been up to much? x

  • Hi Annette. No it didn't burst. Unfortunately I had it laid on my chest. I just didn't think. I usually have it laid on my back but for some reason on this occasion it was laid on my front. The nurse said it wasn't bad and shouldn't take long to heal. She was meant to come today but postponed to Friday due to me having COVID. Hope you are keeping well X

  • Hi Marie, I'm sorry your feeling crap, though hopefully resting  up for a while will help you through it, are you managing to drink and eat enough, I hope Dave is well enough so you can rest, and different symptoms will mainly be due to Dave not having cancer, radiotherapy and chemotherapy which can all affect your immune system. The Friday appointment switch is usual if you have covid, it's a control measure, did you ask your DN if she could change your PICC line, I hope your feeling better by the weekend, fingers crossed you see Megan, just look out for any swelling, redness or discharge. just back to appointments for me and phoning hospitals, be nice if they answered, counselling, bloods and exercise group today then met some friends for a couple of hours which was nice and good news regarding the hernia, I should be able to have it with nerve blocks. Hope your feeling better soon.

  • Good morning. Thanks for your well wishes. I'm not eating much, drinking plenty though. Not got much of an appetite and I have been sick. Slept better last night for the first time and although not feeling the best I feel better than I did. You're right about the effect on the immune system. I've had COVID once before back in the day and I didn't feel no where near as bad this. Dave is feeling much better. In fact he's working from home today. Amy has just tested positive. I'm going to contact the GP and move my blood test appointment again. Still not well enough to attend. The district nurse is due to attend tomorrow to look at the burns. I'll ring them today and see if they can do the picc. I've been keeping an eye on it and it all seems okay. How did your counselling and exercise group go? Good I hope! And good to hear you met with friends. I hope you had a good time. How are you feeling today and what plans have you? Enjoy and take care X

  • Hi Marie,  your welcome, sorry your still feeling rubbish though good to hear your picking up a little, but poor Amy,  hope your grandson avoids it, is he keeping away from school. I don't know why your district nurse can't do your bloods?,  are the burns looking better, and l imagine your releived there not painful and good to hear your PICC  is looking ok but it needs changing as you know, Jo, was lovely and both exercise groups went well

My PSMA PET CT and MDT meeting are due in 1 to 2 weeks and haven't heard anything, my GP put a request in for the scan over a month ago, no reply, so I've Emailed, phoned and even popped in, nothing, got my DN, CNS and GP involved, got a response from cancer hospital today I wasn't offered them at my last MDT meeting, only a PSA test. I listened to what she said, all lies as I record all my meetings, which when she stopped talking I told her and thanked her for telling me her name and that I have a call recording APP , so our conversation is on record  and would be taking it further and hung up,  Marie, our 1st posts to each other in February were on a similar theme, I've had enough of it, oncology have been poor since day one, and this is too much, my little bit of trust has disappeared.

Anyway family home from Florida last night and off to see them soon, which is just what I need right now, fingers crossed you and your family are through covid soon, take care.

  • Hi Marie, I am sorry to hear you all have Covid. There seems to be a lot of it around at the moment! I do hope you can get your picc line sorted out etc and feel much better soon. This is one spanner in the works you just don't need!

  • Good morning. Grandson is back home and back to school. As of yet no COVID for him. They came to redress the burns. They said they didn't look bad. They looked bad to me but what do I know. They redressed them and will be back Monday. In the meantime the nurse sent pictures of them to the GP. He has given me antibiotics as a "precaution" he said. We'll just have to see how it is Monday. The district nurse came back to me and said they don't do picc lines and told me I had to get back in touch with the hospital. They have said I have to go get it done today. They're not very happy in that we are still COVID infectious. But like it's my fault huh. Deary me. Not looking forward to going to the hospital as I still don't feel well. This COVID malarkey is really dragging me down now!

I'm really sorry you're going through all that regarding oncology. That is so wrong and you deserve so much better. Disgusting treatment. I absolutely don't blame you for taking it further. Keep me updated as to how it goes and I wish you all the best. Just sorry you're going through it.

Ace, your family are home. I imagine it would have cheered you up no end with all their news from Florida. I hope you had a wonderful time and feel much better than you did. How are you feeling today X

  • Thank you Annette. This COVID is awful. I feel dreadful and it's dragging me down now. Hope I feel better soon. The hospital have said I have to go there today to get picc line done. But they're not happy in that I am infectious. Like it's my fault. Not looking forward to going in that I'm not well enough but don't have a choice. Hope you are keeping well X

  • Hi Marie,  sorry to hear your feeling rubbish and it's getting to you emotionally and you and your DN have different thoughts regarding your burns, she will have seen many burns . I hope the antibiotics help, I would trust her. I saw my DN today, she did my prostap jab "HT", she told me she/they never do them, she even asked about part of the syringe and what's it for, such a confidence boost, she did fine, just shows they can do things they haven't done before when they want.

I think as you have COVID, they should be helping you to stay at home, they know you are very poorly even before you got covid, and what a struggle it is for you to get to them,  and they will have staff who can do PICC lines at home, maybe ask me next time.

What a difference a day makes,, Marie, Oncology all sorted, think they were worried what I may do, had 14 calls and 4 Emails yesterday from urology,  oncology, GP,  DN and pharmacist, my prostap request was taking too long, all sorted in less than a day as was Oncology, have PSA Monday, PSMA scan Thursday and MDT meeting the following Monday, all in less than 24 hours.

Family came home at the right time,  it was lovely to see them again after 3 weeks, I felt so much better in no time, Mandy has RT again today so taking her soon, back at farm for dinner tomorrow and holiday snaps slideshow, I hope your getting pampered and resting as much as you can, I'm good today and hoping your feeling better soon as well,  take care.
