Pessimistic and no faith!

Morning all, hope you are all keeping well.

Had an appointment with my Oncologist yesterday, he authorised another 9 chemo's. But I haven't yet had a scan to see what effect the first round of chemo has had. He said on the basis of questions he's asked  me, my responses and the look of the area concerned is a clear indicator that the chemo has had some effect on the tumour. This is positive news right? But still I am mentally unable to accept it and remain pessimistic to safeguard myself. I believe this is because I have no faith and went through such a bad rollercoaster time when they were trying to find a diagnosis. I mean amongst other mishaps they completed a scan and advised me it wasn't cancer I had a bleed. Yeah right, I actually had a 15 cm tumour, how the hells bells do you miss that on a scan huh!! Now when they give me positive news, I struggle to accept it as I'm so scared they'll give me hope but then only take it away again down the line. Does anybody else feel this way?

Food shopping today and I think a cream cake is in order! Hope you all enjoy your day whatever it is you may be doing.

  • Could anybody please direct me to some information re holiday insurance and going abroad. I did a search on here and there was so much info it overwhelmed me. Some direct tips on a good provider would be fab.

Also, my oncologist wasn't very happy with me going abroad. Because of the high risk of infection on the plane. We're only thinking of going to Brittany so could get the ferry or train. What's everybody's thoughts please x

  • Morning Marie, I'm glad Dave doesn't look too much like him as he is 83yo, thank you the break was needed, my auntie and I had some difficult things to talk through, but otherwise it was fab and got me back on track, would have loved to stay longer but my cardio/oncology team wouldn't have been happy if I never turned up for my Op, anyway going back at the weekend. I'm really happy to hear your feeling ok after chemo, and hope you told the nurses how hard it hit you last week and hope you get out today even if it's supposed to be your rest day, but you know your body but please be careful. Hospice day for me, have the usual and a hour with my nurse consultant followed by respiratory clinic, my massage has been cancelled as she has covid, Holiday insurance, www.Insurancewith.com are the most popular for most of the guys I know on my forums and get a discount code, If you can avoid flying you really should, will ask around for you, take care.

  • Hi Marie, When my oncologist said it would be better not to fly, I took her advice. We went by train to Newcastle, then Ferry to Amsterdam. Another couple of times we took the train to Southampton stayed in a hotel overnight then got taxi to the Port to go on Cruise, on our return we stayed at the same hotel one night then travelled home the next day by train.

We have been using StaySure for a number of years now and find them great, everything is covered! Have also used insurancewith although they were slightly dearer. It all depends on where you are going and for how long!

I would check out both websites, get their phone numbers and call them. You can't book with Medical Issues through the websites usually. Remember to say Incurable not Terminal, especially when you are having treatment! Good luck!

Hi Eddie, Glad you enjoyed Edinburgh and hope you get to stay longer on your next visit!

  • Hi Annette, was only passing by Edinburgh, I've only ever been 3 times much prefer Glasgow as I stayed there for 6 months many years ago,

MARIE, if you should get an automated booking service when you call, hang up and try and talk to a person, It can take a long time talking to a machine with our health issues and very rarely get to the end, good luck.

  • Morning Marie, saw my nurse consultant yesterday at hospice and she said flying for you would be a very bad idea and just not worth the risk, and did a little more asking around and 2 more insurance providers were recommended, www.allcleartravel.co.uk and www.goodtogoinsurance.com But www.insurancewith.com  and www.staysure.co.uk are the most popular, I hope this helps Marie and if you don't mind my opinion I would be driving to Portsmouth for the ferry. I hope you manage to get to France, I'm sure you will, and have a wonderful time. Anyway how are you feeling today, did you manage to get out yesterday to the shops and the garden, Hospice yesterday and respiratory clinic have had problems with obstructive sleep apnoea for a couple of years, and it seems my exercising and lack of appetite have had the fortunate side effect of lowering my epworth score from 17 to 4 so they can't take my driving license off me now, which was a worry. What plans do you have for today, catch up later, I'm of to oncology, take care.

  • Good morning. Wow thank you for all the useful information and tips. I agree about the flying. Bad idea especially when I've been told not to. The ferry, train etc is a good idea but to be honest I'm not sure if I want such a long journey, even with stop overs. I'm happy enough to go somewhere in the UK with a shorter journey. I will give it some thought. I'm not feeling too bad actually. Tummy is a little off but nowhere near as bad as last week. Yes yesterday popped to the shops and began the attempt to sort the patio flowers. Not sure about today. Dave has gone into work so will probably be a pottering around day. The weather is grey but no rain as yet so may get to do some more in the garden. Good to hear about your driving license. That's ace news. Good luck with oncology and take care x

  • Morning? Marie if we can help you know we will try, relieved you won't be flying really not a good idea, though nothing wrong with thinking about going to France, maybe when you have more time and can break the journey up. PS Norfolk is fab and flat,  really happy the issues you suffered with last week haven't returned, enjoy your gardening and I hope it stays dry for you, drizzle all morning here but I'm off to oncology, exercise group and farm shop, PS no sure what oncology appointment is about, just asked me to pop in. Take care,

  • Good morning. Hope I find you well. All is good here. I've had a better week than last week chemo wise. Grateful for that. Happy with our decision not to go to France. There are so many beautiful places happy and grateful to go wherever. Been to Norfolk. We had a lovely time. Beautiful place and happy to go there again. We have daughter AND grandson here this weekend. Really happy to see him. We are going shopping this afternoon. He is going on a school trip to France on Wednesday and wants to pick up a couple of things. Later we are going for a Italian. Yummy!! But first I have to go to hospital to get bloods done. How was your oncology appointment. I hope it was nothing to worry about. Enjoy your day and take care x

  • Morning Marie, good to hear your having a better week. To be honest I thought you thinking about France was strange. I couldn't agree more about all the wonderful places you can visit here, and Norfolk is fab, well Marie you've kept your grandson a secret but it's great to hear, no doubt you will spoil him when you all go shopping and how fab for him to be going on a school trip to France, ours was always to Blackpool, hope your bloods are incident free, and dinner is squisito  and Dave isn't working and can join you. I'm back in Scotland came up on the train yesterday, which was so relaxing, had enough time in Glasgow for dinner and it was a little quicker than the car, only here till Monday and to take grandkids home, my oncologist has had a request from a senior colleague at Cambridge who wants me to go and see him, I'm probably just a curiosity to him but will probably go. PS invitation is for 2 and travel and accommodation costs are provided and we do like Cambridge. Have a great time today, not sure what we are doing yet, though Sheila has been behaving LOL, take care

  • Good morning. We had a lovely weekend thank you. Took grandson shopping and went for an Italian in the evening. It was lovely. Bloods went well no problems at all. I'm on a good running lol Great to hear you was back in Scotland. And glad to hear you went on the train and that you could relax. I love trains. Especially the old ones when you use to be able to sit in your own carriage. Loved that. I hope you have had a lovely weekend in Scotland and have a safe journey home today. The oncology request is intriguing. It's because you are a legend Eddie lol Absolutely go and a stay in Cambridge will be awesome. Not up to much today. I can't deny the grandson has worn me out lol The sun is shining so I will do some more garden tidying. Stay safe and take care x
