Pessimistic and no faith!

Morning all, hope you are all keeping well.

Had an appointment with my Oncologist yesterday, he authorised another 9 chemo's. But I haven't yet had a scan to see what effect the first round of chemo has had. He said on the basis of questions he's asked  me, my responses and the look of the area concerned is a clear indicator that the chemo has had some effect on the tumour. This is positive news right? But still I am mentally unable to accept it and remain pessimistic to safeguard myself. I believe this is because I have no faith and went through such a bad rollercoaster time when they were trying to find a diagnosis. I mean amongst other mishaps they completed a scan and advised me it wasn't cancer I had a bleed. Yeah right, I actually had a 15 cm tumour, how the hells bells do you miss that on a scan huh!! Now when they give me positive news, I struggle to accept it as I'm so scared they'll give me hope but then only take it away again down the line. Does anybody else feel this way?

Food shopping today and I think a cream cake is in order! Hope you all enjoy your day whatever it is you may be doing.

  • Hi Marie I'm happy your feeling better and had a trip out to Matlock, was a bit warm yesterday, you would have been glowing, not sweating, good excuse for ice cream. What is the Maynard sounds like It's worth visiting, have you tried The Packhorse Inn near Bakewell. I hope you had a nice day today whatever you did. We got home yesterday evening, early appointment at cancer hospital. I started going bald aged 20, ginger and bald. I'm so lucky, but had years as it slowly fell out and being male  to adjust. But I can appreciate being a woman and losing your hair, even knowing it should grow back, must be difficult. I have a few female friends who lost their hair going through chemo so don't be surprised if it grows back different, My day was hospital, exercise group which i managed today, had dinner with an old friend and a massage. Back to hospital appointments for me Tuesday and a couple oy therapy sessions. I hope your chemotherapy goes smoothly tomorrow and doesn't take a lot out of you, best wishes.

  • Maynard is a restaurant hotel we visit now and again. Food is pretty good. It's right near padley gorge which we like to visit too. No not been to packhorse inn. We shall have to try it. I was in the garden yesterday. Some of the pot plants have not come back through so they will need to be replaced. Was sorting them out. Will need a trip to the garden centre at some point. Losing my hair doesn't bother me at all. Losing my eyelashes did though. I lost all my hair the first time I had cancer but it grew back well, very thick.  Good to hear you managed your hospital exercise, well done you. Hope you enjoyed dinner with your friend, sounds lovely. Good luck with appointments and therapy today. I have chemo. Not looking forward to it. The long wait and don't want to feel ill again. Take care and enjoy your day x

  • Hi Marie, Sheila says we have been to The Maynard, but i can't recall. but i do remember Padley Gorge which was lovely and had lots of wood ants, gave my daughter more of the allotment as i can' t manage it all any more. Shame you lost some plants, though it's nice to go looking for replacements, do you have an idea of what you would like or just see what grabs your eye. Welbeck is nice, very nice, Marie I  have to ask, your ok losing every hair on your body, but not your eyelashes why?, exercise group is at Aurora, other appointments routine but GP want's me to see her later today, probably results. How did chemo go today. I hope they have got their act together and there were no unwanted hold ups and you  are feeling ok and thank you for what you said on PMs, best wishes.

  • Hi Marie, how are you feeling today, did your chemotherapy go any better than usual, I do hope it did and how are you doing, did you sleep well, are you eating and drinking ok. Crappy weather won't be helping your spirits either, cold and wet is depressing. Do you have Dave or your daughter with you today I know family always brightens my day, taking eldest to see her Uni friends in Nottingham today and will pop into Maggie's, there's a course at 2pm I may be doing and some of my friends want their Tshirts, best wishes my friend, take care.

  • Morning eddie, hope you are keeping well. Yes, chemo went better, The waiting time was much reduced, about half an hour. Didnt sleep well on chemo day, was up from 3 am with an upset tummy. Had upset tummy all yesterday, not as bad as last week, but just rested. Drinking okay but not eating. Slept much better last night though, tummys still a bit off but i shall see how the day goes and see if i can eat anything. Both dave and daughter are here so all is good. We have rain here and not sure if its me or not but i feel cold brrrrrrr!!!! Fab you was in Nottingham with your daughter, thats great. How did your course at Maggie's go? No plans for me today, going to take it easy. What plans/news have you?

  • Hi Marie, good to hear your treatment went better, though sorry to hear you never slept much the night before, I know you worry about the chemotherapy, let's hope it's a one off, you did mention your tummy to the nurses, and what did they say, I would suggest broth, eggs, fish, smoothies, bananas and homemade rice pudding and plenty of rest and being pampered. I am glad your family are with you Dave and your daughter sound amazing, as are you. Weather is a little on the cool side and wet, rained for 36 hours here, and like you i feel cold, have not been out in just a T shirt all year central heating is still on and car is still at 25 degrees, so keep warm even if Dave and your daughter are melting. I was 15 minutes late getting to Maggie's so missed the group at 2pm so maybe next time, did put name down for ongoing group but it clashes with appointments and not sure i can change them, I am off to Aurora later and have a massage tonight and baking with my best friend, take care.

  • Hi Marie, Sorry about your tummy being upset, I hope it doesn't last long and you get back to eating, even a little, soon! I hope this settles down once your body gets used to the chemo. It's good to hear you are resting!

Hi Eddie, Glad you had a day with your daughter! I know what you mean about appointments getting in the way of things. When I was attending the Hospice they had quite a few courses I would have liked to go on but appointments, scans etc got in the way and I felt as there were long waiting lists for their courses, I thought. As I would miss at least one or two classes, it was right for me to stand down. I do hope you can work around your appointments!

  • good morning eddie and annette, hope you are both well. Tummy still off yesterday and ate little, just some water melon. Oooooooh i would so love a big bowl of rice pudding with a dallop of apricot jam but i just can't bring myself to eat at the moment. We shall see what today brings, fingers crossed. Weather is the same here, wet and gloomy. I'm cold too, carrying a hot water bottle round with me as well as the heating on. Aw im sorry you missed the group at maggies, thats such a shame and such a shame it clashes with appointments. Its really hard to fit everything in that you want to do and keep some time to rest. You could at least try and change them, might be worth a try. I hope you had better luck at Aurora and with your massage. How did your baking go? Hope you made lots of yummy things. Nothing exciting to report here seen as though im resting and not doing much but it is my week off chemo next week so we are all going to anglesey, staying in a glamping pod lol im really looking forward to that. Hope you both enjoy your day whatever you may be doing. Take care X

  • Hi Annette, hardly a day with my daughter more of a taxi service, but I'm fine with that, we like a good sing-a-long in the car, clashing with appointments is a pain, latest one fitted in perfectly with my schedule then later the same day they called and said my existing appointment had been put back 90 minutes, So unlikely to do them any time soon. Annette I have done a few courses over several weeks and almost everyone misses 1 or 2 weeks, we are not well,' It's to be expected so put yourself first. was Roker met up serious?, take care.

  • Hi Marie, still feeling cold, It is a side effect If you have any existing thyroid issues, or cold things feel much colder than normal even a little painful, seek advice, Macmillan helpline is fine. My food suggestions were not based on being yummy, they are really easy on your stomach. I tried to change appointment times with no luck, Aurora talked to counsellor about terminal group and my love2shop vouchers and baking, the usual, quiche, cheesecake and butterfly buns, was a little emotional at times. A whole week off FAB, and going glamping, now I have to say I had never heard of this, and had all sorts of thoughts, was I relieved to find out what it was. I have been to Anglesey and a lot of North Wales, I think you will love it. Marie just to be clear Annette and me are not a couple. and when you say WE are all going to Anglesey, you don't include Annette or me, best wishes.
