Pessimistic and no faith!

Morning all, hope you are all keeping well.

Had an appointment with my Oncologist yesterday, he authorised another 9 chemo's. But I haven't yet had a scan to see what effect the first round of chemo has had. He said on the basis of questions he's asked  me, my responses and the look of the area concerned is a clear indicator that the chemo has had some effect on the tumour. This is positive news right? But still I am mentally unable to accept it and remain pessimistic to safeguard myself. I believe this is because I have no faith and went through such a bad rollercoaster time when they were trying to find a diagnosis. I mean amongst other mishaps they completed a scan and advised me it wasn't cancer I had a bleed. Yeah right, I actually had a 15 cm tumour, how the hells bells do you miss that on a scan huh!! Now when they give me positive news, I struggle to accept it as I'm so scared they'll give me hope but then only take it away again down the line. Does anybody else feel this way?

Food shopping today and I think a cream cake is in order! Hope you all enjoy your day whatever it is you may be doing.

  • Hi Marie, I'm so pleased they got the blood without any passing out or problems. I have always had problems when it comes to them taking blood. My rule is "3 strikes & you are out" I never allow anyone to try more than 3 times as if they haven't got it by the third try, they are going to get flustered and not get it anyway! Once I even missed my slot in Theatre because they couldn't get the cannula into a vein, even the anaesthetist couldn't get it. The surgeon wasn't happy! They phoned someone to come with a hand held Ultrasound machine that showed up exactly where the vein was and then got it spot on! Have they arranged to get your pic line working before Tuesday?? I hope so!

We've always loved our holidays and it doesn't matter if it is 2 hours in the car or having to fly somewhere, it is the break that matters to recharge batteries. We have been lucky enough to have travelled to most of the places we fancied going to so we can't complain now about having to limit the flights to around 3 hours maximum. When we travel by car, we take a coffee break stop every 65-75 minutes so which means we see places in between destinations.

Well Eddie, do you know we ate in the Magpie Fish & Chip shop when we were in Scarborough on holiday, a member of the Forum told me about it. We even managed to meet for coffee each time we were down there but sadly he died last year after fighting for 7 years. I do hope you enjoy Fort William and the weather is kind. Remember to treat yourself to some Scottish Tablet while you are there. The other thing to try is called Straven Toffee but it is more like tablet than toffee so won't break your teeth and it is not as sweet as tablet but is soft & delicious! It comes in a small square shaped packet!

I have had a busy day doing the washing etc after our hols. Visiting my friend Anne n the afternoon, Then rushing back as our 3 grandchildren were coming here after their badminton club for a play then have dinner. After dinner they helped for a bit in the garden until the rain came back on, then we played Scrabble and Trivial Persuit Children's Version! I thought I would put my head on the pillow and drop off right away but it didn't happen!

    Have a great weekend!!

    Love Annette x

  • well the nurses tend to blame each other about the picc line, they say there is a knack to it. I don't know as to whether or not there is any truth to this but I do tend to find that with one person it doesn't work and another it does. And, yes, it is needed for chemo,  i was only thinking about that earlier, i'll just have to go and see how goes it. I generally pass out with any needle anywhere. My right arm, veins are knackered from the first time i had chemo. My left arm, can take blood out but nothing can go in as I have no lymph nodes. We did eat in at Magpie yes. Oh they were sooooooo yummy, you really can't fault them can you huh. I'm laughing about the prawns and woodlice of the sea lol I love them!!! I hope your appetite is returning, it would be nice for that to return ready for you going to scotland. I hope brain scan goes well and have a safe journey. Enjoy, you so deserve it. Look forward to hearing about your adventure. It's fab Annette is posting, she seems lovely, great to have her on board. Take care X

  • oh lordy i wouldn't even make 3 times. I was pin cushioned to death the first time I had cancer 2010 and I believe i developed a needle phobia. Right arm is completely chemo knackered, left arm can take blood out but nothing can go in as I have no lymph nodes. This happened to me with surgery, the anaesthetic leaked out of the vein and when I came round the cannula was in my neck ewwwwwww!!! I've even had one in the foot, bigger ewwwww!!!! I'm sorry you have to go through it, I know how i feel, i truly empathise. And no they haven't done anything with my picc line for chemo tuesday. I'm just going to have to see how goes it on the day huh.

I think your breaks away are a fab idea, keep on keeping on. It does you the world of good. I actually felt sad when I returned home from the last break. We must get another booked. We are talking about Anglesey maybe.

You sound like you've had a wonderful busy day. Hope you enjoyed. Sorry you didn't sleep though. I have no idea why but i seem to be sleeping really well at present. I'll enjoy it while it lasts lol Take care and enjoy your day X

  • Hi Marie arrived at my aunts 2 hours ago, been soaking in the bath to get some feeling back, scan this morning went well, got their 1 hour early and was seen straight away, fab, Marie i never had any issues with Sheila's PICC line though i know being a single makes it easier to maintain, Do what i do, find the nurse/s that can do it and ask for appointments for when they are there. Lets hope the chemo nurses manage better, My apologies to woodlice "never said that before", prawns are the cockroaches of the sea, appetite ok had a good meal at family dinner yesterday, breakfast today and dinner soon, Anniversary party tomorrow and I'm taking everyone out Monday to a local seafood restaurant, Then early start home Tuesday for oncology at 1.30pm. Annette is fab, first person i talked to on the forum, and don't tell her, but Annette is one of my heroes, after you of course, what have you been up to today, any plans for Sunday or Monday, weathers nice, take care.

  • Hi Annette sounds great having grandkids round, though they do wear you out, but sadly not enough for you to get to sleep. Have already stocked up with macaroon bars and will look for Straven Toffee, Annette my Aunt actually lives in Banavie just north of Fort William but as nobody has heard of it i just say FW. I always feel a little upset when you mention Anne, it's so sad what she is going through, It's not right, glad i have my wishes written down on the relevant forms so people know and carry out my wishes. Hope you managed to sleep and have plans for the bank holidays, take care.

  • Morning eddie, glad you arrived safe and sound and it sounds like you are having a wonderful time. And sounds too like there is lots of yummy food involved, awesome. I wish you all the best for the anniversary party today, local seafood restaurant sounds fabulous. Have the best time ever. It's all gone so quick, you must feel sad to be coming home tomorrow. Shame you have an appointment, typical huh. Nothing exciting much to report here. Went to M & S to do some shopping, had a walk to the local high street and a walk back through the park in the beautiful sunshine. Got the deck chairs on the patio and sat in the sunshine and read my book, without falling asleep lol Other than that usual pottering around the house and garden. Annette is fab and that's ace that she is the first person you talked to on the forum, that's lovely that you are both still here and still having a good chin wag lol Enjoy your day and have much fun X

  • Good Morning Marie, weather is nice here but yours sounds fab, love M+S food and trousers, your walk through the park sounds nice, hope the sunshine brought the ice cream van out. and you got the deck chairs out too, so that means it is officially summer, what are you reading?, I'm reading Mindfulness by Mark Williams & Danny Penman. just finished reading about Lucy Edwards. Trip is fab, and sharing driving is such a help, had a lovely dinner/party/dance yesterday, which finished around 10pm so could get some sleep for today, I'm turning into an old fart. I was the only guy there, which meant i got to dance with everyone including grandkids. Today was going to climb Ben Nevis but something came up, shame, and taking everyone out for a meal later, Home tomorrow boooo, early start as well 3am. but will be going again end of June. Annette has been on the forum over 10 years, me only 7 months, though have been on other forums a few months longer. Hope you have a great day and best wishes for tomorrow, take care, both of you.

  • Hi Marie, I just wanted to wish you all the best for your Chemo tomorrow and I hope the pic line behaves and does its job well for you and everything goes smoothly!
While you were sitting on your deckchair reading, I was sitting in the shade helping our grandchildren sow some flower seeds in pots they all have their own garden gloves and tools and love the garden! I'm sure they will grow out of it but I'm just enjoying it while I can.

Eddie, I take it you will already be in bed when you have such an early rise in the morning, I'm so pleased you had a lovely time and managed to give your dancing shoes an airing! Lol!! Did you buy tablet etc to take home?

  • Hi Annette, bed in a couple of minutes, lots of tablet, 2 boxes of macaroons and some straven toffee, good night, hope you sleep well,

    love Eddie xx

  • Sounds great! I hope you tasted the Straven Toffee before buying more than one bar it is not toffee at all, srangethey call it that!

I have been trying to send this for 40 minutes now, so you are probably in bed!

in between times I have read your PM but couldn't reply to that either. This has gotten ridiculous I'm going to contact Admin AGAIN!  To answer your PM yes it is a pity people just don't mind their own business and let other people get on with their lives. Good you can see the real partners. It shouldn't be that way but it says all the more how strong they are. Hope your trip is/has been smooth.

heaven knows when I will be able to post this but I will keep trying! Love Annette xxx
