Pessimistic and no faith!

Morning all, hope you are all keeping well.

Had an appointment with my Oncologist yesterday, he authorised another 9 chemo's. But I haven't yet had a scan to see what effect the first round of chemo has had. He said on the basis of questions he's asked  me, my responses and the look of the area concerned is a clear indicator that the chemo has had some effect on the tumour. This is positive news right? But still I am mentally unable to accept it and remain pessimistic to safeguard myself. I believe this is because I have no faith and went through such a bad rollercoaster time when they were trying to find a diagnosis. I mean amongst other mishaps they completed a scan and advised me it wasn't cancer I had a bleed. Yeah right, I actually had a 15 cm tumour, how the hells bells do you miss that on a scan huh!! Now when they give me positive news, I struggle to accept it as I'm so scared they'll give me hope but then only take it away again down the line. Does anybody else feel this way?

Food shopping today and I think a cream cake is in order! Hope you all enjoy your day whatever it is you may be doing.

  • yes, typical, nothing ever runs so smoothly for me i'm afraid but no worries as long as it gets here. Although we have bluebells in the park adjoining the back garden we are also near clumber park that has one of the actual bluebell woods walk, it's beautiful. I have just returned from a break away in scarborough and surrounding, we had the most wonderful time. Had to return as i'm at hospital this afternoon, bloods, picc line dressing change and appointment with oncology to discuss starting chemo on tuesday. How are you Annette? Well, I hope X

  • Bloody hospitals spoiling your holiday I will have a word with them, sounds like you had a fab time and the sun shone too, which it always does in Yorkshire, and went to some of my fave places as well, hope you sussed out good places to eat, So back to hospital today hope it all goes well especially your talk with oncologist, wish i could give you a big hug, but can tell you i will have everything crossed you get some good news, Opening was great, have taken lots of photo's of "exhibition" but no idea how to send them, but will put them on friends if it can be done. Been a quiet few days, just the usual, last day of diet today yippee, brain scan Saturday then Scotland straight after. take care.

  • HI Eddie, Yes nothing else tastes like Scottish tablet but there are 4 ingredients not 3 so I wonder which one you missed!

Yes thanks we had a lovely time. Went for a swim ( well, I used to swim lengths, now it's more like a doggy paddle) every night before dinner, it was very relaxing. I feel very self conscious in a swimming costume as I have a lot of scarring from multiple surgeries, so it was fantastic because there was no one else there!

Next break is a week in Durham the first week in June!

  • Hi Annette did isay 3 ingredients, my mistake, sugar unsalted butter condensed milk and a glass of milk if memory serves. Annette I have many scars over 260 stitches and now thanks to hormone therapy a nice pair of man boobs  as well as being unusually pale and don't care what some idiot might say, though it's probably easier being over 6ft and male. Your off to my old Uni town, not been for a while but it's a lovely place and the people are very nice, hope you break has recharged your batteries  take care.

  • Hi Eddie, I used to make tablet all the time when our children were young because there was always a Fayre, A Fundraiser or something at guides or scouts to bake for. It has to be caster sugar, sweetened condensed milk, butter and full fat milk. The knack is slowly bringing the temperature of the mixture up while beating constantly with a wooden spoon. It isn't easy to make but once you get it right, it melts in your mouth like home made shortbread! I can't do the whipping now as it takes ages!

Yes definitely recharged our batteries but just found out last night our daughter in law was admitted to hospital yesterday through A&E, they think it is gallstones but an ultrasound today showed no sign so she is now waiting for a scan. As it is a holiday weekend, nothing will be done. So our grandson is coming to us after school Friday and we will work something out for the weekend!

  • Hi Marie, We went to Scarborough for 3 years in a row with our son, daughter, SIL,dil & 3 grandchildren. We hired 3 caravans in Blue Dolphin Caravan Park and all had a terrific time! I am glad you enjoyed your break too. When I was on treatment we always went away in between times. I hope everything went ok at hospital. So do you start chemo on Tuesday or when! Take care xxx

  • Morning Annette, CASTER sugar, of course it is, what a plonker, shall try again soon as it is gorgeous, though the unhealthiest food i know. Sorry to hear about DIL, as you say bank holidays are not the best time to get ill, I have an MRI tomorrow so she may get a scan as well, though having grandson for hopefully just a few days will be fab. PS i have kidney and gallstones and am on wait and see treatment, lovely. great your recharged, hope my trip to Fort William does the same for me, post Op diet is over and only appointment today is a massage at hospital, though will pop in to urology as my urinary tract CT is a little late as is a cystoscopy and i will get to see my favourite nurse, have a fab bank holiday, take care.

  • Morning eddie, we had some lovely food when we was away. Of course we went to Magpies fish and chips yummmmy and there was a couple of pubs near where we was staying that we tried, they were good. I love prawns soaked in vinegar and salt when I go to the seaside, had a few of those lol Speaking of food, isn't your diet finished today? Hoooooorah, will you be having a slap up meal in compensation lol So, hospital yesterday, picc line wasn't working so they had to take blood from the other arm which usually results in me passing out. I didn't thank goodness, it all went well. Appointment with oncologist was just to sign the consent form to say i would be proceeding with the chemo next tuesday, so nothing exciting to report on that one. That's ace you're going to scotland, i'm not jealous no lol You're going to have the best time ever, I'm really excited for you. How long are you going for? Not up to much today, Dave is working and BHF are coming to collect our old settee, anytime today. So it looks like a pottering around the house and garden day. Not that I'm bothered after being away. I hope you have a lovely day, what plans have you?

  • that's ace, i love it that you're always away, awesome. I start chemo round 2 next tuesday and i too am hoping  it doesn't make me feel too unwell that we may be able to get away in between times. I learnt yesterday that if you're away you can go to the hospital where you are to get the bloods done hmmmmm good to know huh. Enjoy your day and take care. Hope your daughter in law is okay X

  • Morning Marie, why is your PICC line such a pain in the arse, will it be needed for chemo, i do hope not, I remember you telling me about giving blood from your other arm and passing out, so pleased to hear it was no problem yesterday. So consent forms signed, i'm guessing a few mixed emotions and nerves, i will have everything crossed for you. The Magpie fish & chips are fab i hope you ate in, there the best, not fussed about prawns "the woodlice of the sea" Marie sorry to say but my diet has killed my appetite, not even a cuppa yet though i have had plenty of water and will have a yoghurt and banana before i go out, have massage at hospital and will pop in to urology as my cystoscopy and urinary tract CT are overdue. Going to Scotland straight after brain scan Saturday morning yippee, but back Tuesday as i'm at cancer hospital at 4pm Booo. Family dinner later as 4 of us won't be here Sunday, Enjoy your pottering and have a fab weekend, great Annette is posting, she's the reason i joined the forum though the circumstances were very sad, i am really glad i did. take care.
