I know that started this brilliant idea so I wanted to carry it on for her and as the forum has become a little gloomy recently as we face loosing them both soon.

So

1. daloni and dizzie outlasted their prognosis by years and I am sure proved that you can have quality of life despite doctors best guesses and we all benefited from knowing them on here.

2. I just got back from a fabulous holiday in Galicia, northern Spain. I walked more than I have for months (chemo pushed me into a wheelchair) the food and wine was fab and I met old friends and laughed a lot.

3. Macmillan have admitted that their upgrade has been a bit sh*t and are working on improving it. Hurrah for Macmillan who have admitted it didn't go well. How many organisations actually come out and say that.

I don't like to think that newbies think that we are a miserable lot, what struck me on here when I came was how much joy, laughter and living went on despite cancer.

  • Send my regards to SiT, you can have some too!

I hope the bats aren't a deal breaker with moving house.

My mum used to say that, I don't think I ever did!

Thanks Ruth but there are so many rules that I think the bats will be staying and so will we.

Just waiting for the buyers decision now.

We saw that dog that was impaled by a yard long stick, back to absolute full health now.

Monty Don's Nellie had the same thing happened to her as well, she ok now thank God. Xxx

  • O dear. Sorry to hear that

we knew an environmental officer who worked for the railway and they had to move on protected species such as bats and there were ways they could do it.

must be different for a private house x

I think I might ask Tinalay, Annette and ownedbystaffies to come down here and give them a good talking to.

I don't think the bats would argue with the forums three witches would they. Hubble bubble.

    SiTs words not mine obviously.

  • Well, I would certainly give them a piece of my mind! They are squatters and should be sent packing!!

How long will you have to wait before you can sell your house?

I'm wondering why you didn't hear them, as any animals usually make noises! They must be able to fly out and in. Just wait until they've flown out and block their way back in. Maybe they will make their home elsewhere!

As Ruth said, there ARE ways the environmental officer can move them, talk to them nicely!!

    Love Annette x

If the buyers don't say anything by Wednesday then I think they may still buy our house. Just got to wait and see.

Always seen the bats outside our windows every summer but we live in the middle of nowhere so expected.and have had every animal and bird endemic to England living with us!

I have done nothing but googled the issue and it looks like the bats would win any investigation! Will report back in the week. Thank you for all your supportive messages.

  • Hi Norberry

Years ago we lived on the South Downs and saw bats most evenings at dusk never dreamt they possibly lived in our roof until we wanted to extend the cottage and replace roof!  Building inspector told us he had found "evidence of bat roosting" so had to have bat report but if they were there we couldn't do anything to evict them as they were protected by law so plans were put on hold while we waited until the end of the breeding season to have another inspection.  Helpfully he suggested we offer them alternative accommodation by putting up bat boxes round the outside of the house or on poles but not on trees for some reason.  Anyway long story short we did that and when we had our "bat re-entry inspection" he took the view that they had moved out.  Must admit we had no idea we had bats in the attic (not in the house anyway..) never heard them or anything in fact looking back they were much better neighbours than we have now!!!.  Hope the sale goes through the house sounds lovely xx

Thanks for the info Deb1E. If this one falls through at least we know what to do to solve the problem in the future.

I will put a selection of boxes up from the traditional to the avant-garde. My wife watches all of the DIY programmes so the little sods will have the best there is! Fingers crossed. Xx
