Hi, I'm due to have my op soon, which will result in a permanent stoma and a barbie bum. I know I will be able to live a perfectly normal life once I've recovered and got the hang of the stoma, but there is so much information to take in, and I'm trying to get my head around it all. I'm seeing the stoma nurse before the op and will be given more information then but I would like to ask those of you who have been through it already - tips of do's and don't? I've ordered a waterproof mattress protector and pads and I'm currently browsing stoma underwear. So much to take in!! Any advice?
I wish there was a laugh react button Kath!
I have always been a fan of calomine and a hairdryer on a cool setting! I’ve never got on with the stoma powder-found it made things too sticky and didn’t help my skin healing.

Good idea about the little fan Ann-my hairdryer is quite heavy but I never thought of a little fan!

Hi I've had a permanent Stoma for more than 2 years now. I have called her Sally, my bag for life !! I lead a pretty normal life since my cancer surgery.
I've had to make a few adjustments to my diet, but can still eat most foods. If anyone has any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
Stoma knickers M&S online are the ones I have found to be the best value.
Hi, thanks for that. I'm now six weeks post surgery and things are going well with just a few teething problems. I have also bought the stoma knickers from M&S, they give good support and coverage.
I haven't named mine yet, I know many people do.
Thanks for your reply, this community is life saver
I’m glad it’s all going well for you - My ‘Poppy’ is 6 months old today and is really behaving very well and has just become a normal way of life. She’s even not nearly so ‘poppy’ as she was initially! Having my stoma has given me so much more freedom and confidence than I had this time last year so Im very grateful to my excellent care team.
It has been suggested I try colonic irrigation to give me even more freedom- has anyone else tried it?
